... is it really necessary to have a receiver that does also? I see a lot of people with the PS3 and Onkyo 606, or Denon 789/1909, etc. Can you not buy the lower models and still get the lossless audio? Do the lower models support the PCM?

In other words, if it's possible, what is the least expensive AVR that will pass through the PCM lossless from the PS3?

My old receiver is dying, so it's time to upgrade to lossless!

Yes, you will do fine with a step down. Just do NOT get a receiver that says HDMI Passthrough as it is designed to pass HDMI audio to the TV and not process it. I highly recommend the Pioneer VSX-918

I bought the denon 1908/788 because it was super cheap, accepts MPCM over HDMI, and doesn't need to decode anything because I'm running a PS3.


i don't think there are a lot of the 2008 models left, so check around.
