We are adding on a new room, and I'm wiring it for speakers before the drywall stage. I would like to have speaker(s) outside the room on the deck. However, we have limited space out there.

Originally we were thinking 2 speakers, mounted on the outside stucco, one on each side of the french doors, but that's about all the space we have. Is it lame to have 2 outdoor speakers so close together (approx 6 feet), or is there such a thing as a single speaker that can be mounted above the doors?

I did some searching in the forums and saw mention of a "dual channel single speaker". More searching showed that this is typically found in the outdoor speakers in rocks / planter pots.

Can / should I do 1 speaker or 2? What are the issues with 1 ?

- Is it still stereo sound?

- How does the wiring connect to it? (I'm assuming both wires of the speaker cable go to the speaker? ... not only 1 like a subwoofer)

Thanks in advance for any help / advice.

It's 2 channels in one enclosure. 2 pairs of wires just like 2 seperate speakers.

It will be stereo but won't be very seperated since the 2 channels are so close together, but if you have that limited of a space it shouldn't be a problem.

Should work/sound good if speaker quality is good.

Even with only 6 ft between the two speakers you're going to be doing a hell of a lot better than a single speaker playing both stereo channels.

Paradigm speakers makes a model like you are asking about.

Check their web site under outdoor speakers. The model

is the Stylus ***-SM,they have 2models, the 370 and the 470.

You connect both left and right leads to the speaker.

I couldn't comment on the sound, I bought the regular

470's. They sound great!!

Good Luck
