"Sixteen Candles" on UHD

1545 Views 19 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  RAVEN56706
Did anyone else catch this? It's 100 times better than the chopped up TBS/TNT version. Uncut, unedited, OAR, and HD! UHD is finally showing some good '80s movies, instead of just low-budget bombs. Maybe they'll show some other John Hughes movies, too.

May 27, 2006 @ 9pm Central. Check your local listings. ;)

I missed it last night. Hope to catch it the second time around. Good to hear it looked nice. UHD is very skimpy on their selections of good HD Movies but at least they do a good job with the pic quality when they throw us a bone.
Thanks for the heads-up chrisPC and guptown.

" Sexy Girlfriend "

" Gettin married... " " Jeez "

:D "No! Jake, not like this"
holy crap what an awesome movie. i'm really pissed i missed it. what the hell kind of a schedule is that to not run it for nearly a month?
I could actually read the logos and posters since it was in HD. I'd never noticed it before, but John Cusack was wearing a WLS shirt.

That reminds me...in that scene, in the showing on Wednesday, after Dong describes how he crashed Grandpa's car, Grandma gets pissed and says "You scuzzbag!" and kicks him in the nads...I don't remember seeing that scene before.

Am I just forgetting it, or is it an additional scene?

I've seen sixteen candles maybe 20 times over the past several years and I don't remember that scene either.

However, my viewing has been limited to the "edited for time and content" version on cable.

Can't wait to catch this on UHD!
There's also another short scene I've never seen before. When Jake gives Farmer Ted the Rolls-Royce and Caroline, Ted checks out her panties! :)
The panties scene has always been there - I don't recall the scuzzbag comment, though - will have to check my laserdisc. :)
Forgive me if this is common knowledge, but a friend of mine pointed out that when the family hurriedly tries to get in the car to go to the wedding after speaking to Dong on the lawn, watch Sam's paternal grandmother. As everyone settles in to their seat in the car and the car starts to back out, the grandmother is still standing outside on the other side of the car mimicking the act of sitting down--the car starts to pull out without her.

I first time I looked for it and saw it, I couldn't stop laughing. I often wondered if that was an outtake that Hughes left in because a) it wasn't immediately noticable with a quick cut to the next shot, and b) if you do see it and notice it, it's dang funny given the grandmother's dingbat character.
Waiting anxiously for this one to roll back around
Was this played in it's OAR? It looked 'zoomed' to me. Can anyone else comment on this.

OAR is 1.85:1, so any changes would be minimal to get to a 1.78:1 AR.
Good to see I'm not the only one who noticed Cusack's WLS T-shirt. Great movie, one of many Hughes films that defined the 80s and 90's.
