Turn the contrast down.
Most new sets come configured in "torch mode" by default, to look good in stores. The contrast levels are often heavily overdriven, causing geometry issues and early tube degradation. Once you turn the contrast down a bit you'll notice that apart from getting rid of the skewing the picture will also have much better focus.
