Last night I used the manual record to tape a three hour block of shows. During playback, the replay would occassionaly skip a 1/2 second or so. I'd say it have 6 times during the three hours. I was watching while it was taping. I had never seen this before. I recently got the 3.0 software. Could it have something to do with the manual record? I was also using a 2 and then quickskip to skip the commercials instead of hitting quickskip a bunch of times. Could that cause it? I have seen a couple other people on the board mention skips. Any idea what causes it?

It doesn't have to do with the manual record, I have had an endless amount of 'glitches' like that since 3.0. 0.5 - 2.0 seconds of nothing, or freezing, or the like. SOMETHING changed and I hope they fix it.

Sounds like a badly fragmented hard drive. Is there a way to defrag the hard drive? Maybe just delete everything.

I don't think so, as it's all new with the software upgrade. they must have changed something.

This is NOT a new problem. It is a well documented issue that no one from ReplayTV has ever "chimed in" on.


It seems to happen more when the unit is recording and there is lots of activity from the remote due to the playing of a previous recording, or the watching of the current recording in delayed mode. The skip occurs when that moment in time is actually played.


Example:

1. Recording a Baseball game and watching it 10 minutes "behind".

2. Press slow mo, review, skip at 3:05 PM.

3. Skip occurs at 3:15 PM when the material which was live at 3:05 PM is played.



There have been several threads about this dating back to last spring that have gone unresolved.


I have called ReplayTV's customer support on this over the summer, but got nowhere.

Well that stinks. A legitimate bug that truly annoys and disprupts the service yet they don't acknowledge it?

I have seen this problem too. I have had a Showstopper 30hr and a ReplayTV 3030 both with versions 2.1 and 3.0. In all 4 configurations this happened, and yes it is very annoying. Even if you rewind a couple seconds or even a couple minutes it still happens in the same spot. It records the skips and then plays them back, just like Mark Dubin described, except it happens even when you just FF/RR to get past the commercials. I had this on 2.1. I agree that doing a lot of activity on the remote causes skipping on what's being recorded. I saw this an awful lot during the Olympics, when I was skipping commercials, athlete profiles, bad commentary and boring events like you wouldn't believe. At some points I hit 18-20 Quickskips in a row. And when I did this, the recording video would always display a glitch at the same point. Many of us had this problem during the Olympics, since I assume we were all skipping boatloads of crap.
