I have two quick questions about the Skyworth DVD-1050P.

1) How does this DVD Player compare to the Panasonic DVD-RP91?

2) Does this DVD Player output 5.1 surround sound via coaxial or the optical outputs?

Thanks

Hi HDCblGuy,

I've never seen the Panny, but have the Skyworth.

The Skyworth will give you better progressive output for video sourced DVDs, as it uses the Sage/Faroudja Fli2200 deinterlacing chip with DCDi processing.

However, the Panny has the nice Matsushita chip without the chroma bug, and has by all accounts an excellent picture quality - possibly better for film-sourced DVDs. I think that they were compared in a recent shootout. Possibly another member has bookmarked it? Otherwise, run a search with the title keyword "shootout" going back no more than 3 months: it will turn up.

I'll leave your last question for others here to answer.

Cheers,

Hi HDCblGuy,

I see you're online, from your instant answer.

So I got off my lazy but and went to the bedroom to look at the outputs:

The Skyworth has both Coaxial and Optical Digital Audio outputs.

Cheers,
