It might just be my monitor but one of the images seems to have clouds missing compared to the DVD edition in the sky due to the contrast boosting.

But that might just be this computer monitor.

Anyone else see this or is it just me ?

You are absolutely right. Look at the picture taken from the inside of the store(third picture with the store sales man)). On the dvd you can see the roof outside the window. On the Blu-ray, the roof blends in with the sky.

This is his best film. I dont know if I will buy it now...

I can see both the cloud through the screen door and the roof through the store window - but they are harder to see on the Blu-ray since it has a higher contrast than the DVD.

The caps for the Blu-ray look really great - it'd be nice to know which is correct, however.

Yeah. I to can see the roof now. But it is very faint though. Maybe you guys are right. Maybe i overreacted. It is good news though that the grain seems intact.

Im am very curious about the commentary track. Is it good?

I have to say that I think the term "contrast boost" is entirely wrong here.

By definition, an increase in contrast is lighter highlights and darker shadows. That's very obviously NOT the case here.

The screen caps show marked increase in shadow detail. What we do see here is general increase in the exposure value...the entire image is lighter. I gotta tell you, I personally like to see the shadow detail. The BD image is head and shoulders above the excessively dark DVD.

Those Blu-ray caps look great. Have we really gotten to the point now that if the Blu-ray looks 'different' than the old DVD, that something must be wrong with the Blu-ray???

I've never seen the DVD, so I couldn't even base an opinion that. Still, the contrast in Sling Blade clips in some spots and as a previous poster pointed out, overall exposure is lightened making the film, at times, appear somewhat washed out, but it does in fact have strong shadow detail.

I would rather see a more moderate tweak. Now some of the detail is lost in the BR. Unfortunately, it seems to be a trend to "boost" old films. I think they could have done more to make Sling Blade look better. But thats me....

Watching this now ....

I don't know about any contrast boosting, but for my money, it's a great transfer - at least on my meager 52" screen. And it comes with a $10 rebate for owners of the DVD - which helps.

Just a heads-up - it is the theatrical version of the film, and not the Director's Cut that Miramax released on DVD a few years ago.
