A question...what would be better, placing my front speakers on stands in front of my screen wall, or building them into the screen wall. I have a 30" deep storage room behind my screen that I could easily box the speakers into. I am also building a 5" high stage in the front that they could sit on. I am worried that the front seats may be too close to the speakers if they were placed on stands. Layout is as follows (no laughing at the Paint sketch...I'm at work, after all!)

I've always read that it was a bad idea to put speakers inside another box, and that it was best to get them away from the walls a couple of feet.

I'd agree. If you're gonna do something in-wall either:


1. Buy speakers that were designed to be used in-wall.

2. Build an acoustically transparent wall to sit in front of your speakers and to mount th escreen on.


Don't put them in another box in a hard wall.

If you do inwalls, spend a little extra money and get back boxes for them.


A good set of inwalls can sound very good if set up and used right.

What are back boxes? Do they come from the same speaker manufacturer, or is it an add-on thing?
