I hope this is in the right place, but I'm asking projector owners only.

Does anybody use a small display with their projector set-up for setting DVDR recording times or other tasks ? I'm not talking about people with a 40-50" device for casual viewing and a projector for "important" viewing, but a small device the size of a portable DVD player or smaller. I saw a HTPC that had a built in display for this and thought about an add-on solution for myself in order save bulb life. I hate turning on the projector for few minutes, just to set my DVD recorder.

Thanks

any small display will work, what about an old VGA LCD display and a transcoder? Or how about getting a slingbox which can serve double duty as a way to watch your cable away from home and setup DVR without turning on projector.

You can use the composite video out of your dvr and hook it to a protable dvd player

I've been doing this for a couple of years. So far, all of the devices I've used have had all of their video outputs hot at the same time. I picked up a "video module" from Parts-Express...essentially it was a closeout on the screen only half of a two screen/one player Audiovox portable system. Looks like they currently have something similar on sale. Route composite from your sources to your receiver and then composite out to the small display; works great for tweaking receiver settings, DVR programming, or DVD-A/SACD navigation when you're in a musical state of mind.
