I am looking for a subwoofer that will extend the bottom end on my Gallo Reference 3.1s. I do not want the SA-subamp, but instead I want a sub to use with them. The 3.1s extend to 34 hz, and I want 20-22 hz. I am used to it. My budget is fairly open, but not endless. I use separate electronics on the 3.1s so the sub(s) will be fed full-frequency RCA som they will need to filter the bass out on their own.

My candidates so far are:

- 2 x Gallo TR-2

- 1 x SVS PC13 Ultra

- 1 x Velodyne SPL1500R

What would be your recommendation, I use the setup 90% for musical purposes, and that is the most important part - HT is just a bonus and not that important. Integration, depth and tight bass that is MUSICAL is important.

Which of the options would you chose - or do you have any other options? I am Europe-based so brands such as Outlaw and HSU are not available here.

I had the exact issue with my Aerial 9s. They were full down to 30 or so, and I was missing the bottom.

I bought a Fathom F112, and have never looked back. The key to me was augmentation and this sub delivers musical bass as well as not taking over both in terms of size and boom.

Some say the F112 has better upper mid bass, which is also what you are describing.

Try it out.

Thank you for your replies, but both the Rel and the JL Fathom are out of mye league price-wise. The candidates are as high as I would go economically just for the last 25 hz of bottom end.

Check audiogon. You will find the JL @ $1600 in mint shape.

A- I'll answer here instead of the Gallo thread. If you're listening to music, I love my SVS SB12+ (small, sealed 12", -3dB at 27Hz in large room), and would probably go that way over the Gallo ones (which I have not heard, but doubt they'd be much better for the price). I haven't heard the Velo either, but the PC13 is supposed to be quite impressive. Check out Craigsub's rankings thread- he's got a HT and music ranking for each sub he's tried.

Patdeisa, I have had an SB12, but feel I need a bit more output than it provides, hence the 2 TR-2s as an option.

The Ultra from SVS is supposed to be really good, however I wonder if 2 subs won`t be better for stereo purposes?

The Velo is tempting because I can get a good deal on it...and the DSP

Audiogon is tempting, but I`m non-US so I require an 220 V - 50 hz amp.
