I'm looking for a set of speakers + amp set up for my computer.

I saw a chinese class A amp from bada (badahi-fi.com), Purer 3.3, and the reviews are quite positive, for less than 500USD.

However, I also need a pair of speakers, and i prefer the smaller ones. I'm wondering if you guys have any suggestions?

these are what i've found so far:

1. Q Acoustics 2010

2. paradigm atom

3. Wharfedale 10.1

You do not need amp. Buy active speakers.

Something like this: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com...air?sku=135249

or this: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com...ock?sku=482827

Unlikely.

...but using an amp and passive speakers sure opens up lots more choices.

Go to the speaker section where there already several threads of this nature and you will get lots of suggestions, like:

- DefTech ProMonitor 800

- KEF 2001 or 3001

- NHT Absolute Zero,

- etc, etc

In my computer setup I have a Beresford Caiman DAC/pre (gets digital out of my computer) to a Gizmo amp to KEF 2001 speakers and a Jamo Sub200.

If you go to Chase Home Theater they are selling off Gizmo and WAF-1 combos for a great price.

Only if he needs fancy look or furniture grade finish...

It would also allow him the ability to someday upgrade the speakers without buying a new amp.

Not "only"...

...it definitely opens up many possibilities IF fancy look and furniture grade are important

...but it enables speaker options from many different manufacturers who do not build active speakers; speakers which are differentiated by different drivers, design, etc. - way more than just looks

thanks for the suggestions.

this is what my setup will be like:

Hackintosh > Apogee Duet > miniwatt N3 amp (?) > Speakers, looking at the Swans DS2.1SE or the TS6.

Used CM1 are pretty rare.

Paradigms are not really popular in Hong Kong, and they can be hard to find.

I tried the suggested active speakers above, adam & KRK, and didnt like the way they sound.

Does anyone have comments on the TS6? they are pretty cheap in HK, around 699USD. How are they compared to the raved DS2.1??

My parents got a pair of NHTs Absolute Zero and they are great. Incredible sound for their size and even the amount of bass is surprising. I believe they got the pair for $200 so it's something you should consider looking into.

(Also, how many posts does it take to become a "Member"? I read the FAQ but wasn't able to find anything, and search is disabled.)

I hear good things about the PSB Athenas. They and the NHTs are on Audio Advisor. You could purchase both for an audition and return free of charge.
