Small stereo only zone for kids

What is the best way to have HDMI swithcing plus external stereo speakers besides buying a HT reciever and not using 99% of its features.

I think I am looking for an HDMI video switch with 2 channel stereo output & volume control? any good solutions out there. I am trying to purchase all my products to be compatible with a home automation system in the future. I would like a minimum of 3 HDMI inputs.

it's a long run from the equipment to the monitor. It would be cheaper to buy a $500 product than run 4 HDMI cables -and I would rather not go the ultra simple route of just using the monitor variable out.

Any ideas?

Probably 3 to 6 months before I can find the time to start working on Home Automation & Control systems again.

I have already spent some time in CRQ but my 30 days are up and I want to take a look at the other options out there with some hands on work.
Are you also going to run analog video to the display, or are you planning to upconvert everything to run over HDMI?

All sources are already HDMI - so there is nothing to upconvert.

I think the key digital HDMI 4x1 Switcher/Processor is something like what I am looking for, but how would I control the audio volume?

No Nintendo for the kids I guess. The Key DigitalKey KD-HDMI4X1 looks like it will do the trick, but I would be curious to see how it handles digital audio conversion. You will need an integrated stereo amplifier as well. Are you sure you don't want to use a receiver? Its certainly not less expensive this way.
