small sub request

1446 Views 14 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Kysersose
Hi,

I have paradigm fronts and center. I want to add a subwoofer, but in a 13.5 tall area. Is there any good subs that are not higher then 13.5"? My price range is around $500.

You really need to provide more info. How big is the area you are trying to cover? What are you after? How much HT and/or music? Above all STFF the forum for previous threads and suggestions therein.
Other needs aside, I'm not sure how many subs there are shorter than 13.5". Even my old Onkyo HITB sub was a few inches taller than that. Offhand, the only one I can think of is the Velodyne MiniVee, but I think that'll run you at least $700-800.
If you have enough width and depth, you could always lay a small sub on its side. There are plenty of smaller subs less than 13" wide.

I listen to music in 2.1 and movies in 5.1 I have paradigm studio 20 v3 mains and the cc 570 as a center. I want a sub that will fit in a small location (13.5" x 17" as wide as it needs to be. to cover a small room around 10' x 15'. I'm after good bass for music and great rumble and explosions for movies. I can up my budget a little. I mean, what do you think I want to use my sub for, cooking?

well its going to be hard to fit a sub thats great for rumble and explosions in movies under 13.5". at that height you are looking at a sealed musical sub. the onix ulw-10 comes in at 13" so check that out.
The SVS SB12-Plus is 14"x14"x15" (hxwxd), but price is a little over budget at $699 - $799 depending on finish, plus shipping. It did very well given it's size and its sealed alignment in Ilkka's recent sub shootout over at hometheatershack. The preliminary results show 90db @ 20hz at 2m ground plane, it should easily be capable of 100db or more with in room boundary reinforcement.

The Av123 UFW-10 is only 13" high, but it is again on the high side of budget at $599. You might want to check with then on B-stock.

I've found some reviews, but where can I hear one? It looks like a good fit.
The Dayton Titanic 10" sub kit at Parts Express:
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=300-760

is well reviewed, easy to assemble, and (depending on where you live) under $400 to your door.

Very good down to 25-30Hz.

It would be perfect, if it was 1/2" shorter.

A member in your neck of the woods since they are ID. Otherwise please refer to this link under read about their policy.
I am thinking about a subwoofer at magnolia. It will fit and it is around $500. I forgot the model number. Anyone have any experience with the subs at magnolia. Are they ok? Or over priced? I just need a good small sub. I would like it asap, meaning something I can pick up in Concord, ca in the next few days. I think it is a definitive brand. Are they any good?
Which of these three subs is the best for me?

I would like to buy locally (Concord , Ca ) but I will order online for the right sub.

Locally I can get a:

Martin Logan Dynamo 10"

Definitive Prosub 800

and someone here recomended a Rocket ulw-10 sub and provided a link.

Anyone have any suggestion or input?
