Finishing the basement and the ceilings are 8'5" for the non soffited areas. I'm putting in a dricore subfloor and carpet so realistically the ceilings will be around 8'3" - 8'4" after that.


Drywall install mudding and taping will be hired out. Can/Pot lights will be used for lighting.


What is the best look, smooth, textured, popcorn?

I have smooth ceilings throughout most of my house. I really like the look of it. It does cost significantly more though in labor though.

I've had both and there is no such thing as a quick drywall repair with the textured finish. I hated it for anything that involved DIY wall surgery.

I did light texture on my walls and did the stomp ceiling. Although I like the smooth look of the walls the texture does hide most of the flaws.
