SNL 12/17/05

Did the live SNL HD broadcast tonight have some issues with the center channel in 5.1? In St. Louis, we could not hear any of the actors, but we could hear the audience. Our SD feed had all the sound however. Was this a national feed issue, or did our local NBC affiliate screw something up with the 5.1, as usual.

I didn't think SNL used 5.1

Well my station isn't equipped for 5.1 either way so UI couldn't help you, I had no sound problems.

Oh and the Date is 12/17. It's December, not October ;)
I noticed lip sync was off on SNL tonight. (Watched it to see Neil Young.) A bit of a pain, but not worth calling to complain. Then, lo and behold, at 12:55 (during Neil's second number) the audio takes a hit, and boom! Perfect lip sync!

Did they really try to fix it with 5 minutes left in the show? Did anyone else notice, or was it just an NYC thing?
Probably a local issue in St. Louis. And yes, SNL is 5.1. It has been HD and 5,1 all season.

Yes, audio was in sync, but unfortunately our NBC affiliate has encoder issues, and at this time converts all programming to 2.0.

No problems here -- I heard full 5.1 cleanly, including the center channel, and had no lip-synch issues at all here on TWC-NYC.

Did you hang around for the last 5 mins of the show? You should have seen/heard the same glitch that I heard. Audio was not several frames late for you?

Who in their right mind has the patience to hang around for the last 5 minutes of SNL anymore? I started watching it when it first came on TV and now I am lucky if I have the patience to get past the FIRST 5 minutes. The intros are about all that's remotely humorous anymore.

If you DVR it, it's easy to skip to the next sketch when it's clear the one you're watching is going down the drain. Many classic SNL sketches debuted in the "five to one" part of the show ("Wayne's World" is one example).

I would tend to agree with you on this, but last Saturday's episode with Jack Black hosting was really strong. The funniest SNL I've seen in a long while. That Spelling Bee skit had me ROTFLMAO, and the Tenacious D ending was just icing on the cake.
That Chronicles of Narnia rap was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. I can't stop laughing at it. Priceless.

Of course it was a local issue. And these clowns think they are ready to do local news in a couple of months? Maybe that will make them get their act in gear.

LOVE this skit. Anyone got a vid I can download? :D

the Narnia rap was classic, and the spelling bee skit was funny.

unfortunately the rest of the show was pretty dreary, as it has been for a few seasons now.

i think they really need to do what they did in 1983/1984 - get an entirely new cast and start from scratch.
I had the lip sync problem watching the NY national feed on DirecTV. My wife even asked me if Neil was lip syncing.
Does anyone know why KING in Seattle STILL isn't broadcasting SNL in HD???
