I have an external drive with a hundred or so VIDEO_TS folders, most of which were re-authored using DVD Shrink as uncompressed video. A few of the folders contain more than one title as the movies were on more than DVD. These played fine using Front Row/Leopard.

After upgrading to Snow Leopard, I noticed that the second disk (title) in the folder does not play. A review of disk commands using MyDvd Edit indicates that the re-author is correct.

When testing the folders using DVD Shrink, the second title sequences normally. I also can play these folders normally using Plex. However, if I use the OSX DVD Player, I must manually select the second title to play it.

Am I missing something, or is this a bug?

I've never used Windows ripping software, sorry, and I also don't understand what you mean by "reauthoring" a VIDEO_TS as uncompressed video...a dvd is compressed video to begin with, a rip yields a VIDEO_TS folder which is the exact same file, just as compressed.

By reauthoring do you mean after ripping you went in and edited out things, like the menus or FBI warning or foreign subs or previews and then closed it all up again as a VIDEO_TS folder?

I also don't know how a VIDEO_TS "folder" can contain more than one "title"--one ripped dvd yields one folder which represents one title.

But, all that said, I "think" I have done something similar to what you're describing with DTOX/DVD2OneX--as far as removing parts of the ripped dvd--and building a new, more streamlined VIDEO_TS. I've also used DTOX a few times to combine two separately ripped dvds into a single large VIDEO_TS folder--and the few that I've merged like this play fine for me in Front Row and Apple dvd player.app in both 10.5.8 and SL. (I hate the way Plex deals with dvds so I don't use it for them.)

So, on the few occasions that I've done something similar, combining 2 ripped dvds into 1, I don't see a difference between 10.5.8 and SL--the file plays fine in both. The only software I used for this is DTOX. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Yes that is what I mean by re-authoring. IRT compression, DVD Shrink allows you to compress mutiple layer DVDs or several DVD titles so they can be burned on one DVD-R.

DVDs usually contain multiple titles, for example extra video clips. When combining DVDs, multiple titles are added in one folder. I have some longer recordings from D* that required more than one DVD-R that I ripped in multiple titles in one folder.

This re-authoring procedure plays back fine in Leopard/Front Row, Windows, and Plex. As far as I can tell only Snow Leopard/Front Row/DVD Player do not sequence to a second title properly. They should also play in standard DVD player if compressed enough to fit on one disk.

To play a movie from a Video_TS folder using Mac's DVD Player:
  1. Choose the Video_TS folder you want to play
  2. Select the "GO" menu item.
  3. Navigate to the "Title" and select a number

Your movie should now start playing.
