Don't know much at all about this projector other than it uses 9" tubes and is ES focus.(odd combination?). Tubes were described to me as "Pretty good with no burns". Comes with the remote that's needed and a case.

The only problem is, it was a spur of the moment bid and I did not read his payment requirements. Turns out he only excpets Paypal which I don't use.. I emailed him and asked him what he woudl like to do,

Assuming he'll take a different form of Payment.. Shipment is goign to be a killer. probably $300 (which seems about $100 to high to me).

So final amount will be $450 shipped. Too much? Good deal? average?

If the set works, then yes, it's about at the same league as th BArco 1500 or 1600. THe tubes seem to be a bit more reliable than the BArco versions, as I think the HV is lower on the AmPros.

I talked to the seller, these are all ex rental ujnits, whiich means they probably have relatively low hours on them.

If for some reason you can't take the set, tell the seller I'll take it at the same price. I was going to bid, but forgot about it..:)

If he does'nt want a check or M.O. I'll tell him you'll take it..

I figured these were rentals because all of his projectors come with remotes and cases. Are the cases flight quality? Could the projector be shipped in the case and nothing else? If this is the case does $300 seem high from west to east coast USA? No packing are building a box reqiured. I recieved a few projectors via frieght but it's never cost me $300.. The most I paid was $200.

BTW, I am not familer with the Barco 1500/1600. What other projector might the Ampro compare? ( Image quality) ECP? Barco 800? Nec Pg?

I was watching this one as well, but I'm getting sick and didn't trust my clouded judgement to bid. I think you got a potentially great deal. As long as the tubes look good and there aren't a lot of standby hours on the machine you could have a very nice machine there indeed. $300 seems pretty much appropriate. Nice thing is the PJ's come with road cases.

Best of luck with the PJ (and to those who won the other 3 up for auction).

Thanks Mike,

Gee, I wish there was some way around the high cost fo shipping these things. It would be cheaper to buy a plane tickect and bring it back with me. Would this projector qualify as carry on?:D

Hehe, a 200lb carry on - like to see that!

The best deal on shipping is through an air freight company (Forward Air). Since you already have the road case for the projector, all you have to do is get the projector to the Forward Air in Seattle somehow and then pick it up at their nearest depot in your neck of the woods. Apparently this costs around $150 or so and everyone I've heard talk about it on the forums has said they are the way to go.

I just gave them a call but was disconected twice after being on hold for 10 minutes (each time). I'll try again tomorrow. I think the closest terminal is in two hours away. Worth it if I could save $150.

Thanks for the info.

Here's the deal with Forward Air. Your seller will have to be willing to deliver it to his Forward Air terminal. Once there, they will weigh it and determine the shipping charge. Then he will have to go buy a money order for that amount

and come back (they don't accept cash).

Yes, ampro's track days.

Sounds promising.

I've got the Ampro Esprit 4000 operator's manual... but it's 12.4Mb zipped (128 pages).

Let me see if I can find the link that I downloaded it from.

Just a tip, aliensmadeus. If you can get set up with Paypal and register a credit card with it, that provides you redress from getting took when you buy on eBay.

That is if you only make a Paypal payment using the credit card to provide the funds (and the funds don't come from either a Paypal balance or a withdrawal from your bank account).

Because if you get cheated, you can then dispute that charge with your credit card company and they will usually issue a chargeback and remove the charge from your CC account balance.

It wouldn't reply help with this transaction because the cost of shipping is significantly more than the cost of the item. And the CC company will require that you return ship the item to the seller before they issue the chargeback and credit your account.

But in 99% of transactions it is a good method for eBay buying because it will remove you from being at the mercy of dishonest sellers.

Does anyone have an a opinion as to where this projector fits in the grand scheme of things? 9" ES focus.. Is this as good as an 8" EM focus? Would it compare to a marquee or is that wishful thinking?

I know Curt mentioned the Barco 1500 but I'm not at all familiar with that model.

Wow... it sounds great... better than any of the projectors I've ever had because they "are small, light, state-of-the-art systems" :D

As a WAG, I'd rate it near the Barco 800 (just below PG) on my list .

If your tubes are as fresh as they sound (and the pic on the auction looked pretty promising), don't worry about ES vs EM. Just enjoy the picture.

But my bottom line criteria for my subjective list: no, I wouldn't trade any of my 8" EMs (Ampro 3400, BG808, M8000, M8500, or BG1208s2) for an Ampro 4000.

UPDATE AGAIN!

The seller just emailed me and said he made a mistake in the listing that the projector is actually a 4200 not a 4000... This is good, yes?

4200 =9" EM focus?

Too early to celebrate?
