before this goes too far, it's not a format war thread. just an honest question from a newly purple person.

i am going to be ordering my first blu-ray player within the next month and started purchasing discs for it. my first disc to arrive is Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End. i was pretty happy to have my first BD title to ad to my already growing hd-dvd collection but found it very odd to find that it is presented in 1080i. (at least thats what the box says)

so if the BDA and sony/BD CE's are all touting "1080P full HD" and "beyond HD" why on earth is it mastered in 1080i?

i dont think a single one of the hd-dvds i own or have rented are any less than 1080p. i know the difference between the two and with the right processing they can look the same, but if they went through that much marketing hype why would any one studio release in 1080i?

just a serious question from a blu-ray "newb"

Yes, it's a typo. Do a google search for it and you'll find that more than a few spotted this when the BD was released.
