Something i noticed today. I went to buy my 52", was torn between w4100 and sammy A650. I had given up on the 46" Z4100 cuz of size.
Well i walk into the store, and just my luck, one of the soccer games was on the ESPN HD channel. With the sony and sammy side by side, we messed with the settings for an hour, and no matter how hard we tried, the SONY had a better picture.
Almost everwhere i have read the Sammy gets more raves over picture. Why? cuz of clarity and sharpness and color. Problem was, the picture looked FAKE on the Samsung. Yes it was crisp, radiant colors, and great sharpness. But you had to look fairly hard to notice, and them being side by side made that easier than it normally woudl be. Problem was with the Sammy, i swear it just looked "too good".
What better option to check 1080i format is there then a soccer game? You have grass, dirt, great movement, great pics with no movement, great colors with jerseys, closeups on players, fans, the whole 9 yards.
With the sammy the grass looked like astroturf, players looked like they were rubbed down with baby oil, and the btw, there was more blur with the ball than there was with the Sony too. It just didn't look Natural.
Needless to say, i walked out with the sony 52" w4100 instead of the Sammy A650. Both great sets, but that did it for me.
I do feel like though to be fair, i didnt' spend as much time watching regular programming (who cares), or blue-ray content or games of course, and this was a 52" comparison of the two. So i can't say the Sammy doesn't whip the Sony around in all of those areas, but i can speak for what I saw, and what i tried, and after a tough decision i walked away feeling good in my own insignificant mind. What's that saying about buttholes and opionions though?
This was just mine.
Sidenote: I still like the z4100 most of all, but damn Sony for not selling that in 52", even though we all know if they did they may as well not even realese the XBR 6 for value buyers.
