so.... Sony studios will NOT release titles on HD-DVD?

I just bought an HD DVD player on a whim because I love technology. But now that I am reading about it, apparently movie studios are "supporting" HD DVD OR Blu-ray. Does this mean that as long as the war continues, no sony titles will hit HD DVD.

My favorite movie of all time is Fifth Element. Is it fact or opinion that I wont be able get this movie on HD DVD for like 1, 2 years or NEVER?

You can pretty well count on "never".
I don't think this was ever in question they would be shooting themselves in the foot other wise but Universal and Warner are gigantic not to mention at least one other unnamed studio coming on soon.

1. Return your HD DVD Player

2. Wait 1.5 months (or more)

3. Grab your ankles

4. Send a message. Do a Dish 622 and to hell with the whole HD disc thing.
You could always wait for the LG player that will support both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.
you know, Im gonna look into the Dish 622, because I will not support Sony since the day they screwed me. I hope that they are shooting themselves in the foot with not cooperating with HD DVD and ignoring the 8 to 6 vote. As a consumer, I want Fifth Element. But I cant have it. What b*tches.

5th Element is one of my favs. Do you have the Superbit edition? If so, pop it in the HD DVD and enjoy the upconversion quality which is much superior to Dish "HD Lite". I got jazzed a few months back when I saw The Fifth Element listed on TNT HD, on Dish. "At last I get to see it in HD!" I thought. After 20 minutes I switched it off and popped my Superbit into my Denon upconverting DVD player. Upconverted video quality was noticably better than TNT HD, and the DTS audio far, far superior. And the Toshiba HD DVD player upconverts even better then my Denon.

Enjoy the upconversion version of 5th Element, and tell Sony to go screw themselves. I have a Sony HDTV & Sony A/V receiver, but when they try to push their "superior but proprietary" formats at me, I tell them to go eat a betamax. :p

Don't forget the Sony rootkit CD fiaaco and also you KNOW there will be at least double dips on HD with them as well. Mpeg2, SB yada, yada DELUXE, extended....

:)
TNT is a joke for most movies but they do some HD nice. MY HD version of the 5th element is substantially better than the superbit version.

Where did you get a "HD version" of the 5th Element???? A recording from a broadcast other than TNT?
Fifth Element showed up on Comcast on Demand HD a month or two ago.
Comcast and "HD" are barely compatible terms.

well funny you mention it cause me think lots of HD DVD should be remastered properly anyway.... (from low sound to not much improvement over DVD etc...)

It was on HBO-HD (2.35:1 too!) a few years ago, back before D* was bitstarving and downresing.

Some areas are bad for it, some are rather good for it. The Boston area has been rather good for it with a solid number of channels and great looking picture.
On top of that, the Comcast HD On Demand version was 1.78:1, not 2.35:1.
Once HD-DVD wins, you can get your Sony on HD-DVD. They will be the last studio and I'm betting it will happen in ummm 2-3 years. So I wouldn't say "Never".
