The only thing I have found that comes close is the 1" thick Owens Corning Selectsound Blanket. I may go with this for my lower walls. Has anyone used it?

Also, how important is it to use true 1 inch thick strips to furr out the upper/lower walls? MDF is not 1" as someone said but a nominal 3/4" and I can't get 1 inch thick plywood.

Home depot guy suggested the cheapest, i.e., not the easiest way would be to glue two 7/16" 4x8' sheets of OSB waferboard together and cut them into strips with a table saw. That would be a pube under an inch. I think this would be easier than ripping 2x4s as some have suggested. How bout some input from the regulars. Thanks in advance.

Even better than the Owens Corning stuff is Johns Manville Coated Insul Shield Black. Right, Dennis?

I found 1" MDF at a local Ace Hardware store. I paid them to rip the 4x8 sheets into 2" strips. That is what I used for my furring strips.

Good luck.

Shaun, sweet HT.

I'll try ACE for the 1" mdf. Thanks for the insulshield tip guys.
