So, where are they going with HDMI?

Couldn't find an interconnect forum & since I have a rear projection with HDMI this was as good a spot as any to post this question.

How far are they going to take HDMI?

They had 1.1, 1.2 & now 1.3.

I'm currently waiting to buy a new reciever until they come out 1.3 compliant next year but that got me wondering what will be the future changes to HDMI.

I mean is there going to be a 1.4, 1.5, 2.0 etc, and what will the next upgrade to HDMI be?

At what point will they change to another style of interconnect that will make the HDMI old tech like S-Video is now?

What ever happens I'm, not waiting till 1.4 comes out to get a reciever, I'll be getting the 1.3 reciever next year & just watch & see what they change next.

Nobody knows, but rest assured, there is ALWAYS something better just around the corner.

As far as my own predicitons: When will they change to another style interconnect you ask? To which I say "The very moment the HDMI encryption is cracked". Its just so funny. I have yet to see a perfect copy protection scheme that was unable to be broken. While on the subject, I think its so funny that they don't allow upconversion over analog connections for fear of copying, but once the HDMI encryption is broken, it will be a non-issue for the analog portion. You will be able to get bit-perfect copies thru the digital connection.

Anyway, since the latest talk seems to be about "TrueHD", which I belive is some sort of lossless compression for audio, the next logical step in my mind is lossless video compression.

Oh well, those are just some random thoughts of mine anyway.
