Can't remember if I asked this (sorry if I did) but can my Barco 701s display full 1080i or does the resolution max out at 1024x768? I know it can display up to 1024x768p so I assumed that meant it could display an interlaced picture of twice that resolution (or at least to 1080i) but then someone told me 1024x768 was the maximum resolution. The tubes are 7", the bandwidth is 45MHz, HScan is 15-50kHz, and VScan is 37-155 Hz.

it will display it yes.

however horizontal resolution will not be 1920 lines. maybe 1200 or so.

end result will be not as sharp as a better CRT projector with larger tubes and EM focus.

Still will be a very nice picture and if you never demo a Barco 808 or better you won't know the difference so enjoy what you have .

O yea, I'm certainly greatful for what I've got I almost bought a 32" LCD to get into the high-def world before I found this for less than half the price of the LCD and everything is superior. I was just curious because if it wouldn't handle 1080i I was just gonna run my movies in 720p.

You will most likely be able to set up 1080i to look better than 720p. 720p will likely be softer, but you may prefer its look for upscaled DVDs. I would recomment you run your 1080i HD at 1080i.

I display hd-dvd and blu-ray at 1080i on my barco data 701 and it looks great. However ,your tubes will be the final test.

Gunnar

It may not be worth it due to the relative cost of the machine, but Kim's transcoder looks better than the internal one.

Person99,

Is Kim's transcoder worth the cost to change from the internal transcoder? How much does one cost?

701S will not SYNC to 720p!

YES it will display full 1080i thats how I had my old 701s set up. It did a fantstic job at 1080i running with a tri sync signal.

The 701s Is an equaliviant to a DWIN HDP500. I now have a DWIN HD700 running at 720p....The 701s is a good projector thatwil lstart getting you into the next level you will only go up from this projector, a great place to start with a CRT machine.

What do you mean it won't sync to 720p? Do you mean it won't accept a 720p signal or won't display a full 720p resolution (which I already know since it maxes at 1024x768p instead of 1280x720p... from what I understand at least). Because I think some of the stuff I want to do has to be in 720p, mostly PS3 games that display 720p and can't be upscaled to 1080i because Sony didn't see fit to build a scaler into the PS3.

Edit: Ok, actually I'm pretty sure you didn't mean it won't accept 720p since 316 and a few others told me it will accept it before I bought it, still confused what you mean it won't sync to 720p though.

I ment it wont SYNC and DISPLAY the 720p Picture. Mine didnt. But then again is was a VISION model not the original GRAPHICS model I bought. When it was "fixed" it became a VISON so maby thats why it wouldnt do 720p.

If yours works on 720p you will be very happy.

gentleman,

The only 700 series that will resolve 720p is the barco data 701 and the 708. The 701s will not resolve 720p. I've had all of the 700 series barco's ,and that is the 100% truth. However ,the 701s is a very good projector none the less. Enjoy the projectors ,because 1080I is the best image you will get out of these projectors...period!

Really? Now why is this because I was under the impression that the 701s was exactly the same as the 701 only with component inputs and capable of 1000 lumens instead of 750. Regardless it will resolve most of 720p correct? (1024x768) and that is fine with me, I plan to run in 1080i when I can anyway but a few things I'll be running are 720p only and can't be scaled up.

Is moving from a barco data 701 with hd-145 lenses and 9 rated tubes to a mitsu. Hd1000U DLP a bad idea? I just bought one from a forum member because it was a good deal.

if you would have said the 3000U you would have doen abou twhat I did.

I went from the 701s to an OPTOMA H77. It was a good upgrade. The H77 was just about as good as the BARCO but after about 2 1/2 years I sold the H77 and now have a DWIN HD700.

The 1000 is a good entery level DLP but I think the 701s would be a better picture. Granted the 1000U is virtually maintnance free.
