I am in the process of converting my main drafting computer (Vista HP, Core 2 Quad, 8800gt, ect) to pull double duty as a HTPC. I am trying to get the computer to play blue ray movies and output the sound in 7.1 via analog outputs. I know I will need a blueray drive to read it and an Asus Xonar DX which has the 8 analog outputs, but I have no idea what software, if any, I need to bridge the gap.

From reading online reviews of blueray drives I have heard most of the drives coming with crippled software that only outputs sound in stereo, but I was thinking the asus card had the Dolby decoder built in to turn the encoded signal into 7.1. So since I have the soundcard, will the audio signal bypass the software and go to the asus card to be turned into 7.1 or do I still need a better version of software to get 7.1?

Xonar HDAV 1.3 comes with ASUS TMT. Check your DX listing.
