last week, someone inferred the issue might be the cost of the downlink equipment...

Here's the solution:

1) add a camera in the blimp

2) record the 1st half onto tape

3) send some CBS interns out in a Toyota over to an unused sports field near the stadium and drop the tape to the crew on the ground

4) techies show segments of the tape during 2nd half

use a fishing pole with heavy test...

use a mini parachute...

let them setup a net...

or a big fire/rescue air-filled thingy...

WHATEVER IT TAKES to get the film to the ground!!!

That way, we have cool images during the daylight hours of the stadium - and the guys in the booth can have some fun picking some images to show us during the second half.

They don't show gameplay images from the blimp - so why do we care what time or subject is shown - we just want to see cool stuff on our expensive equipment!!!

Remember when ABC carried HD sports? They actually had an HD picture of the stadiums...not from the blimp but from a nearby building. They used an optical through the air link to the stadium to send the HD picture. The problem with trying to downlink an HD picture is that it requires the signal to be compressed in the blimp and uncompressed at the stadium so that the picture can be used with the other HD sources. They could of course use a ton of bandwidth and send the uncompressed signal down, if their is such a device. Personally, I'd rather see the PQ of the game improve and then they can work on an HD blimp picture.
