I purchased a 55mm to 67mm step up ring:

Got the cheap one, $8.44. This grabs enough thread to be very secure (as you will see from my IMX post coming next). Then add a 67mm filter, and remember to get a 67mm lens cap.

A larger filter than the lens can't hurt I imagine. If there is any distortions on the corner of the filter, they'll be avoided with the larger filter.
