Ok I took a look around, but most of you are light years ahead of me on the HTPC thing. I'm looking at upgrading my HT, and I would like to include my PC in this process. I would like to be able to connect my PC to my receiver, so I can playback my music.


I'm thinking I can store CD's on an external hard drive uncompressed, and then use the PC to set up play lists and such.


So what software or applications that can help me do this type of thing. Also, what receivers are there that can help me do this. What would I need to do this for the actual connection of the PC to the receiver (USB, serial)?


Any pointers, threads or other info to get me up to speed would be great.

search is your friend....but I'll suggest J river media center for music only playback.


get a good sound card and hook it up via SPDIF to your receiver.

setup a remote to control it.
