First of all, I could not find a good section to post this in, so please take it easy. I have noticed that some 2.35:1 movies have bigger black bars at the top and bottom than others. For example, I have Days of Thunder and Halloween, both blu-ray and both with the same aspect ratio. I was just wondering why some movies in this ratio have bigger black bars than others. Thanks

The simple answer is there are different aspect ratios that make up a "scope" image

2.40:1

2.35:1

2.37:1

So you'll have different size masking/bars to fit your 16x9 screen size. For more info please google aspect ratio.
