Some great looking, "show-off" movies are on DVD now.

I've just watched the two newly released CGI movies, "Valiant" and "Madagascar", on my setup, and I've got to say, these are BOTH movies that can most definitely

be used to show off your video system at its very best.

I was particularly impressed with the natural enivoronment outdoor scenes in both movies, but overall, I'd give the edge to "Valiant" for the incredible character imagery and detail. But either way, both movies are...to borrow a phrase from "Madagascar", crackalackin!

Get both. No doubt about it. Not only will you get some great show-off imagery,

you'll totally enjoy both movies if your sense of humor and wonder aren't busted.

Valiant:

Without a doubt the most colourful movie I've ever seen
Funny you should mention Madagascar, I'm going to be watching that one tomorrow night. Looks like it's gonna be fun.

The "very best" gets much, much better... If you think DVD looks good, wait until you get hooked on HD

Since you like Madagascar, try this for a teaser:

Starz is showing "The Incredibles" in true HD. I DVR'ed while gone over the holidays.

Much better than the earlier transfers ( link ):

I'm watching the U2 Vertigo concert now since I had to wait for my kids to give it to me for Christmas (filmed in Chicago, Cliff... I've got it cranked for you... my wife and kids are asleep... man I love the sound treatment in this HT!!!). I'll be watching The Incredibles for probably the 20th time later tonight... I scanned through it quickly... it really looks Incredible.

I have HD cable. I love its visual qualities. But watching "Valiant", upscaled to "merely" 800x600, you'll be amazed at how good 480p (native) video can look at its best.

Sure, I'd rather watch it at 1080p, but that's not an option yet, is it?

For those with DIRECTV, Madagascar will be on their HD-PPV channel in a couple of days. This channel used to get just about full bandwidth, but I think it may be downscaled like some others now. Should still look better than the DVD unless they mess something up though. "Dark City" is also scheduled for HD on Starz in the next day or two. I'll probably add Starz through Comcast for that one and "Ghosts of the Abyss".

Ok, all this HD talk has me interested. What would be a good budget receiver that will play nice with my BG800? I'll run it through the Pass-thru on my Iscan Ultra so I can go higher than 480p...
Ya, I recorded a Sarah McLachlan concert a while back that was filmed in HD and people want to walk through my screen when they see it..... You should see Discovery HD Theatre (Insectia in particular) played back at 1080p via TT and ffdshow on a 9" CRT. Absolutely rediculous!

Samsung TS-160, -165 (I think) and -360 can pull in over-the-air HD as well as NTSC cable. I just scored a TS-360 delivered (with two SD decoders thrown in) for $90 delivered.

I can't comment on reception quality, as I'm using mine as an NTSC cable receiver and scaler for DVD on my back-up set. I may ultimately use it for OTA HD but I need to get a decent antenna.
Yup, HD is doing to my dvds what dvd did to vhs. Sad but true.
You guys got to watch the movie The Island. Talking about eye candy...wow.
second on the island, great transfer and I like the movie a lot too
