This is stating the obvious, but interesting to consider non the less.

300 new HD DVD tittles in 2007 equals about 6 new releases/week. We are two weeks in with basically no new releases so that equals almost 7/week. Since not many are listed for the near future that means some weeks will be very full of releases.

Exciting, but they better hurry, I, like many, am in serious HD DVD buying mode. I would buy tittles on HD DVD that I wouldnt even consider on SD DVD. Comon studios...you cant find a better customer then me.

I just had a conversation with a very high level Toshiba executive here at CES in LasVegas who stated that the HD DVD promotion group is aware of this perception and the studios will correct this announcement and release dearth in the near future.

I'm not sure if you are doing it, but I don't think there was anything saying those 300 were for the North America. Europe could get a lot and Japan should get some. And 100 of those might be porn.

No the announcement was with Universal, Paramount, Warner, and Bandai. I am also pretty sure that number was for North America and that their was about another 300 world wide. Digital Playground has stated though that they will be releasing about 4 movies a month but they are not part of the HD-DVD promotion group.

Yeah I remember reading it was 'worldwide we'll have 300 movies released' (except that's not a real quote but from memory). Regardless, it HAS to pick up soon - nobody moved to BRD only so there's no reason for us to panic - although I've been antsy since I bought 28 movies in 3 weeks and then have seen NOTHING announced even that I'd buy in the last month....

I doubt without any specific dates that they hit 300 over here. I know it is early but 300 would most likely mean worldwide...

From the Official Press Release:

Quote:
announcing more then 300 additional movie titles that will be available this year, for an expected total of more than 600 titles worldwide.

I think it is clear that the 300 new movies are worldwide releases and not 300 unique new releases in North America.

First I would ask what they consider for there total of 300 releases?

It mentioned somewhere that there were already 300 releases up till this point. But by my count there were only 157 by the end of 2006. Granted I only counted what was released in NA.

So by this I think they have the ability to release 300 in NA in 2007 since they put out 157 from start and it wasnt a full year and now they can produce more then previously.

But at the same time if there counting worldwide releases does that mean we should only expect half that for NA release for 2007?

Someone above mentioned they havent released anything in the last few weeks. And although I dont like and think Jan releases are low they are continuing to make releases.

My link in my sig holds an HD DVD release list if anyone want to see what has been releases or scheduled for release

The more I think about this the less worried I am. Warner and Universal (and Paramount) have a LOT of titles up their sleeves. I think Warner will be slow in announcing new titles while they switch over to THD (the delay is a bummer) but in the next couple weeks we'll have a big slate of releases to salivate over in the coming months. I'm tempted to worry since I haven't seen a single exciting release in a month (announced or released) but I know that a year from now my library will probably have doubled, and that's all I can afford so it'll be smooth sailing.

I don't know that there's a complete lack of titles. I've personally preordered 3 titles that come out next Tuesday, and I'm sure that's not all that's being released then. An average of 6 per week seems perfectly reasonable.

That is my slogan. So the longer the wait we are going to be at 10 per week? Are we supposed to believe that? I'm not worried just want those that say, do.

6 Per week or someone is lying!

Also as mentioned this could mean INTL it also could mean porn. So I guess...

Yeah I find it HARD to imagine where they got 300 from for 2006 (in order to add 300 in 2007 and have that equal 600). Japanese, European, small studio... still it's not near 300 unless Fett is correct and they're counting the same title released in 2 markets twice. But hey, from the 150 or 180 from 2006, I bought 28. If they release a similar mix of quality I'll be ok buying 28 more in 2007, can't afford much more than that anyway. I'm discouraged by the lack of 'buys' from the announced 2007 titles right now, but honeslty there's about 4 BR titles that I'd buy - were I a sellout

hey, at least you guys are lucky to not have all this pressure on your wallets. us blu-rayers mostly havent even caught up buying current releases, and more are coming out every week worth buying. i think i might go bankrupt this year trying to buy all the blu-rays i want to get

I'm buying both and it's definitely killing me.
