Hi

I recently got some nice speakers - 2 of the sets I got from Goodwill no less - that I can't make up my mind to keep. Got a pair of Mission bookshelf speakers, code on back says 6000 series, an energy center, right and left from the Take Classic series, a pair of Wharfedale rears HTS sat4's, and a pair of Polk rears also, Rm1300 I believe.

Which are best to keep?

I have a bit of a tin ear so can't really tell the best but which would be best 5 speakers to keep for a home theater setup and music optimally? Obviously, I would keep the center but which others? can anyone help? thanks

You are going to be the best judge since speakers are a little like food. Some like spicy some like mild. Listen to each pair in stereo 2 channel mode with your favorite music and decide which ones you like best.

I was afraid someone would say that because that is exactly what i would say to someone as advice.

how about which speakers are known by rep to be best or more highly recommended? Just something that i can start with.

I would get rid of all of them and start over. You don't have 5 speakers that match.

Buy 5 speakers from one mfr, all from the same product line.

You didn't mention that you had a subwoofer. Based on what you listed most of those speakers are satellites. They do not sound good without a subwoofer.

the energy speakers i have are 2 fronts and a center from the Take Classic series so they match.

The rears are not as important to match timbre-wise from what i understand.

I'm thinking of keeping the Polks as rears all in all but wanted to get opinions on whether I should switch them up if one is better than another pair.

I have a sub - Dbox300 and it's pretty amazing on its own. Best Cosco purchase i ever made - wait, the protein bars were pretty good that time.

The mission bookshelfs are your best two speakers.

The take front three with wharfedale surrounds would be the best match.

If you have a tin ear does it really matter?

hahahah, I hate you, Ronaldo and obviously can't have that much of a tin ear - that was my original setup from the get go - the energy's and the wharfedale rears. lol

I was thinking that the Polks may be better speakers for the rears instead, no? They're smaller.

If you're gonna keep the Take as your center you pretty much have to use the other Takes as your front speakers. None of the other brands would be a tonal match.

Ya know, you've got all these speakers in your possession. You can't figure out whether the Polks or Wharfedales would make better surrounds, tin ear or not? Just plug them in and try it out.

The Takes are not great music speakers, they're too small. Missions bookshelfs would probably be best for music.

If you want the best of both worlds, especially for music, sell them all and get a set of 5 matched speakers like I said earlier.

This Jamo setup would be cheap and better sonically than the much smaller Takes.

Wharfedale is going to sound laid back and reproduce music, especially jazz and classical, effortlessly. They also work well as main's, but i find the laidbackness of the center not quite enough for what a center needs to do. Just some insight.

as a followup, ended up selling my main energy speakers to a guy that was wanting them so bad because the white cabinets matched his system! lol so now I have the 2 mission fronts and the energy center and the wharfedale surrounds.

what a mess!

i think i should sell them all and get energy's all around or perhaps the Jamos? hmmmmm...... p.s. my sub is a Dbox sub, pretty nice.

any advice?
