I'm sorry...I must be missing something...I thought the MSO controlled the bitrate. Are you saying that HBO has been providing low bitrate transfers and that the MSO's are just passing that along?

Actually I was hoping for a quote from 'Pulp Fiction'

"and Who said that?"

"they did."

"they talk a lot, don't they..?

"yes, they do..."

Seriously though, the Matrix Trilogy looked pretty good on HBO... But I doubt they increased the bit-rate... it's still sharing transponders with Sho-HD and HDNet Movies (assuming you're referring to D*)

Can we find out more about this "someone"? Has he been vetted? Have his bona fides been verifed?

Beyond all that, is there anyone here who would even begin to believe that HBO would give even a microsecond of thought to changing the bitrate for any given movie? Why would they spend any time or money doing this? It makes absolutely no sense at all.

"Someone" said it and "they" confirmed it......

Sounds a lot like a Simpsons episode where Homer was going to put breaking news on his website about Mayor Quimby using public funds for a private swimming pool. Rumor came from Nelson, but Lisa told him you can't publish unsubstantiated rumors. When Bart said maybe it was Jimbo, not Nelson - Homer said "We have confirmation!" :)

HBO HD does not arrive at cable headends at 19.3 Mbps, far from it. Now, some may compress it even further, but some definitely don't (Comcast for one).

This bitrate thing is one of the many matters that get mentioned by the Great Mentioner. But until now, I thought that he only worked in Washington. :)

The more I think about it, it becomes obvious that the original post was a joke (is it April Fools' Day yet?). No one would actually believe that or post that "someone" told him something and actually be serious.
