I am hoping for an answer to this question from someone who owns this projector with a 768*1368 resolution.

If you receive a a 720p signal from a hdtv digital set top box to the 768*1366 projector because the resolution is not an exact match will the 16*9 screen be filled entirely?

Same question for 1080i material?

Does anyone with this equipment have a preference as to the setting 720 or 1080 that they leave the set top box on?

Do you notice a visual difference between dvi and component input from the decoder box to the pj?

Most projectors will scale to fill the entire screen when the correct aspect ratio is fed to it. Many have settings (passthrough, 1:1 mapping, computer mode) that will allow you to bypass the scaler and not fill the screen, if that is your desire.

I have this set up.

You dont need to do anything. The PJ takes care of the picture.

Let the set tp box utput the best signal. Should be 1080.

The HS20 has a great scaler and prduce amazing picture at 1368*768.

I am in full mode for everything - HDTV and normal TV and my HTPC MCE 2004 (I'll upgrade later).

Dont remmber set top box preferences. Got this setup one year ago. I forgot. I think it is 1080 though.

Good question. I have an HS20 and have no idea if it has a passthrough mode, let alone how to access it. I need to play with the settings more.

That is my question. If i use the through modes full or normal will the 16:9 screen fill because the 720 does not exactly match the 1366*768 of the projector?

You say you use full for 4:3 and hdtv?

Dont the images look stange watching 4:3 material in full mode?

On Full it will fill the screen with any signal except non-anamorphic widescreen or widescreen that is wider than 1.85:1. In the case of the letterboxed DVD or TV signal, you can put it on Zoom to fill the screen. Wider than 1.85:1 you'll just have to deal with black bars on the top and bottom. For 4:3, If you have to have the screen filled, I would recommend Wide Zoom as it is much less offensive than Full.

1080i better than 720p -- NO.

Go with 720p. When sending component to my HS20, I noticed no difference then sending DVI. And, when sending 720 vs 1080, I noticed slight to no difference depending on what I'm watching. Screen is ALWAYS filled when watching HD content. When watching 4x3, or 480 stuff, I use the receiver to do the "stretching".

I have HD through Comcast to my HS10, which is 1368x768. I normally leave the output of the cable box to 1080i and let the HS10 scale it down to 768p. But sometimes for stations that broadcast 720p (i.e. FoxHD), I set the output of the cable box to 720p and let the HS10 scale it up to 768p. IMO the scalar in the HS10 is much better than the cable box, so I try and avoid having the Motorola box do any scaling. Since the majority of HD stations I get are 1080i, it works out well, I only make the change to 720p for sports, and only if I remember to do it. ;)

But if the input is 720p and the resolution of the pj is 768*1366 and you have it set to 1:1 or through mode would not the lack of pixels, 768-720 cause that much of space around the screen?

There's no option on my HS10 to change the mode for HD channels, using component inputs from the cable box. Using my DVI input for my HTPC, someday I may get a DVI switch.

I'm not sure about the HS-10, but the HS-20 has two modes that will not fill the screen. Full Through for 1:1 mapping of 16:9 and Normal Through for 1:1 mapping of 4:3. I believe these settings are primarily used for a computer. I'm not even sure if it will allow you to use them when receiving a 720p signal from an HD tuner. It is also of note to say that you cannot use the keystone correction or side shot when in these modes.

Edit: After checking the manual, the through modes are only available for the follow signal types:

VIDEO/60

VIDEO/50

480/60i

575/50i

480/60p

575/50p

So it will always fill the screen when connected to an HD source.
