Sometimes 3DTV makes me want to scream!

Especially when I try to switch the 3DTV into the 3D mode that I require and the TV only allows me to select modes that I can't use.

No doubt the result of a committee decision based on the public being stupid and not being able to handle too many decisions.

In this case the Samsung will not allow the selection of checkerboard mode and instead offers the option of 2D to 3D, side by side and over/under which are totally useless for my purposes.

Grrrrrrrr

You have to go into the source menu (under "Source>Edit Name", IIRC) and select "PC" as your input. Otherwise, it assumes you can't be doing checkerboard. Once you've set it to PC, the grayed out 3D types will become available again. It's one of the most unintuitive, silly choices I've ever seen, and it adds several steps to a process that should be easy.
on my tv PC mode puts a border around the screen and its freakin annoying...

which video card do you have and which tv? The video card is probably set to underscan.
Yeah rename HDMI 1 to PC. Then you will get checkerboard option. Input has to be 1920x1080p60Hz.
How stupid is that? They think you should understand that "renaming" the input means that the TV can enable checkerboard as a 3D display option. That's a good example of a programmer making an interface decision that could only make sense to a programmer.
