Sonos Arc with Sony A80J

I just bought an A80J and hooked my fire cube 4k up to it. When i play a movie like Mulan that is DV and Atmos i only get DD 5.1 when i look on my Sonos app. What do i need to do setting-wise to get atmos on the Arc when using the A80J?

It was a pain to get these two to finally handshake with my X900H, but definitely make sure eARC is enabled, then make sure the input 3 is set to enhanced, then in the Sonos AP made sure earc is turned on and made sure your HDMI cable is pushed in good on the Sonos. With mine there was no click or response and the cable seemed to not seat as tight as I would have liked.

Where in the Sonos AP is that setting to check?

I had the same problem with my A80J, albeit with a different soundbar (Beosound Stage). I could only get Dolby Digital, not Atmos, and I spent hours changing every possible setting on the A80J and Stage.

In the end...it was a bad HDMI cable. As soon as I used a different cable from soundbar to A80J I got Atmos.

The HDMI cable that worked for me was the cable that came with my Xbox Series X.

eArc does require a HDMI with ethernet type cable, not a plain HDMI cable.

So is the HDMI cable to comes with the Arc this type??

Unknown. Best to try a known cable like a certified premium HDMI cable from monoprice or Zeskit.
Got the Arc setup with my 77 A80J. For the most part everything is working. But a couple of questions.

When changing channels on directv, and also when switching to another source (such as Apple TV or the TV internal apps) there is a slight delay before the audio starts. Any ideas on this??

Also, what volume level are you using in normal viewing?? For us, we have to turn the volume up to at least 40 in normal viewing, sometimes even a little higher. Before setting up the Arc we were using the TV internal speakers and for most viewing, we would rarely go above 30. Does that sound normal?? Anything as far as settings go that I need to check? We have an Apple TV 4k connected to HDMI 4/ Directv box connected to HDM1 1/ Arc connected to HDMI 3.
I was thinking of this exact combo (a80j and Sonos Arc). I've seen some users posting that they have issues with no sound - requiring unplugging the HDMI cables and a restart of the TV. Is this true? Are there issues with the a80j's eARC and the Sonos Arc? Thanks
I have a 65a80j on the way and an Arc, i also have a pair of One’s as rears….. looking forward to seeing how the Roku Ultra does.

i’ve installed a bunch of Arcs and Beams with little to no issues, TV’s are the wildcard, sometimes things change overnight, auto updates, power outages its crazy, house trolls, Lol they are all real

I have the same setup and issue.

77” Sony A80J
Sonos Arc
Sonos sub
Arc is hardwired to network. Sub is wireless. This is because a known bug with Ruckus Access points and Sonos according to Sonos support. Without the hardwire, I could not get the sub to connect.
When viewing Dolby 2.0 content we usually are around 25-35 depending on the show.
Atmos or even 5.1 when watching Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, YoutubeTV it seems we have to get into the 40s, sometimes into the mid 60s to hear it.
Previous Sound bar was an old Klipsch 2.1 soundbar, but it was loud even at low volumes.
I am using a Monster Ultra High Speed 48gbps HDMI cable plugged into the eARC port.
I have the latest A80J software installed along with the latest Sonos updates installed.
I have loudness and speech enhancement turned off on the Arc as well.
I have tried true play many times on my 13pro and from my iPad Pro 5th generation but it doesn’t seem to fix it.
Volume limit is off.
using native apps installed on TV only. No external sources.

I did notice that when we screen mirror an iPad to the TV and play music that it is soooo loud. If i use the Sonos app on my iPhone/iPad and play music, that same audio is not as loud…

Anyone else have that issue? Any fix? I have looked all over the internet but nothing has fixed it for me.

Could it be an issue with the streaming services compressed audio? I have a Plex media server I will try to stream with the native app and by plugging in a spare Mac laptop to stream To see if 5.1 audio is same/better/worse.

I forgot to ask, what settings on the Sony A80J should I have set for audio?

I will confirm this morning but I believe I have it set to Auto 1, Bravia sync disabled, pass through currently off. I have tried with it on but didn’t see a difference.

I ordered a monoprice ultra high speed certified cable that I will try and another brand just to see if that helps.
