Well, now that the opinions are flowing on the Sharp Z9000, I have found myself uterly ldistressed. This was supposed to be "it". The first DLP that would do away with the rainbow effect that so sadly hampers my decision to by a DLP unit.

So, I consider the Sanyo PLV-60, but read up on posterization, solarization..etc...etc...

I figure, with the exception of D-ILA ($$$) I am out of luck, except for going with LCD. But I crave the supposed increased contrast increase of the DLP models. What does one do?

David did you see the Sharp XV-Z9000U/E? Did you notice the Rainbow effect? From reading the majorty of people haven't seen any rainbows so it might not be a problem for you?

The future is LCOS, if the manufacturers can get it together. It needs to be big, bright and beautiful, with no screen door, no rainbow and great colors. Quiet, cool and light definite bonuses.

Maybe the Hitachi? Maybe the Christie Digital? Maybe the TAW? At some point, someone is going to hit one out of the park with LCOS again...

Mark,

You may have already noticed my repeated inquest in the Christie Vivid Red. My only fear? Absolute Black level. While I have no doubt that the LCOS can prodcue a respectable contrast ratio, I am really looking for a good absolute black level.

I figure from my less than 200:1 VGA projector, ANYTHING will be an improvement.

They're not over-rated if they make you feel dizzy and throw up.

Well, they don't do that to me. However, I think the most annoying thing about the rainbows, other then themselves inherintly, is that they are random. Screen door is always present. Rainbows are not. AND, they are highly subjective.

David, you need to see different DLPs with other processing than their own. Have you seen one hooked into a HTPC? For some this helps a lot, for others not. There is probably a solution out there for you, you just need to find it!

Cheers,

I have a Sony vw10ht, and I too crave for more black and contrast....HOWEVER...I love the overall picture and the LACK OF RAINBOW>....Rainbow makes me tired and makes me feel like I'm on LSD....(not LCD :) The sharp might be a GREAT picture, but you know that next year they will come out with the same great picture with NO RAINBOWS....Until then, I will not replace my pretty 10ht.
