Thought this should have its own thread rather than buried in an older thread.

Those prices are a joke and outrageous if you ask me. No wonder why Sony is in the trouble its in.

I see nothing wrong with this prices. They are just MSRP not sale pricing or anything like that. Remember when the 65X900A first came out, it was $6999.99 not it can be had for $4999.99. Some of those prices are comparable to some of the current 4KUHD prices. I believe sale pricing will be more competitive

Over 2 grand for their bottom tier 49" edge lit LCD?

The pricing for 50" LCD are in the $500 range these days.

Sony is asking a WHOLE lot for just their name.

Keep in mind thats a 4k tv. Still wonder what others will charge for their 50 inch 4k. Vizios will be around a grand ish. At 2200 its at the bottom of my list.
Small 4k monitors cost more than this 49 inch Sony - what is the problem with Sony prices? We're looking at their XBR top of the line TVs here - what do people expect? To get top of the line Sony for the price of a Vizio? And who even compares Sony with Vizio? Compare Sony with Samsung, and Vizio with Hisense. Samsung's top of the line is $40k, by the way

These are all premium XBR models. There's nothing wrong with these prices at all. If anything they are more affordable than ever with the X850 series
Premium my ass!

If they were to match even Panasonic plasma picture quality from 2011 than yes, it would be worth it. Or if they had perfect quality control with zero banding or backlight clouding, but they won't!

It will be the same edge lit LCD that every manufacturer has been churning out for the past few years.

Only the X950B will be worth there insane markup for the picture quality premium.

You start comparing Sony to Vizio when Vizio releases a 4k tv of the same size for $1000.00 less. Granted we still have to wait to see if Vizio can deliver on the pq. As of right now I'm more of a wait and see who releases what at what price and pq reviews. Not really knocking the price as im was sure Samsung and Sony would be higher. Just waiting to see where the card fall once released.

These aren't TV's you're going to find in a Costco or Sams Club.
This new XBR line now has three levels/tiers and the 49" tv is at the bottom of the top tier.

$2200 for a third tier tv and only 49" these days no matter what letters it has on it is B.S., just my opinion.
