I am at a loss for words. LOL.

Updated my software tonight which seemed to go ok. Now I can't turn off the TV. Neither remote or the TV itself will turn off. Just a warning to those who update if you experience this. I am going to be calling sony for the 100th time tomorrow. NOT a happy camper. I take back my post about perfection. While I don't expect it, this is beyond anything I ever imagined. Time to break the CRT out again.

edit: Did a complete reset and that fixed the issue.

The equivalent of the XBR55X850C in europe is the X8505C right? I'm a bit confused because on sony's website they mention the X8505C/ X8507C / X8508C / X8509C and there's no way to tell the difference between them :(

The amount of Motionflow XR Hertz differs : X8505C has 800 Hz, X8507C has 900 Hz and the X8508 and X8509C have 1000 Hz. And it's Sony btw, not Panasonic ;). The XBR55X850C is just a general name for all these models.

I see, but isn't that amount of Hz only marketing? As far as I know most high end tvs are using 120 Hz, more than that is not real, or so have I read

Oh yeah haha sony! I was checking panasonic's website when I posted that haha ;)

7.9 score...great...wish it was 8.3 or above to make me feel better about the X850C vs JU7100....now I'm rethinking again.
Thanks for all of the information. Greatly appreciated.

I was getting ready to go pick up a 65X850C until the comments about the audio sync issues. Plenty in stock at all of the Best Buys near me and the proper price adjustment (finally) sealed the deal.

I purchased a 55X850B a few weeks ago with a steep discount and no matter what I tried, including turning off all processing (which helped some), I couldn't correct it. Unacceptable for a year old TV. The clouding was terrible as well but that was just bad luck.

Looking forward to hearing about a fix. Please keep us posted.
My Sony 55X850c has no audio sync problems nor any weird lighting on the corners, I got it set and configured to my liking and now it pops. Samsung, SMH, I'll never go back to them, all their bad software, and faulty firmware updates they never test before releasing their firmware, and because of that it fried my UN55F9000. Horrible tech support to boot on Samsung's side.

Did you get Netflix yet? I updated mine Sunday morning, and I don't know what it added, because it seemed the same as the previous update I had done, no obvious UI changes or performance changes.

The only thing new I noticed yesterday was Amazon was there now, still no Netflix.

So the 65X850C dropped to $2600 as promised, pretty sweet!

EDIT: ORDERED! I forgot that I had set up a Sony EPP Discount account a while back from Slickdeals, so I was able to get it for $2500 all in with taxes. Very excited to get my first new TV in 8 years!

So I got around to using the rtings settings. At first when I tried last night, the custom settings looked exactly the same so I thought rtings was just showing what options were available, but after a 2nd time around there were a few differences. One is in regards to the Motion settings. Their picture shows Smoothness of Min and Clearness of 4 with Motionflow Off. In order to set Smoothness & Clearness, you need to turn Motionflow to Custom. I'm not sure if the settings are used when Off, but I left it as that. When set to Custom with those settings, the screen turns much darker/gray. Another difference is that the 65" advanced color settings offers Multi point (10p) Color Gamma Adjustment. I have no idea what that does :) Going to do a little LED Calibration 101 later tonight.

The settings have smoothed out motion noise during fast movement on my cable feed. Picture looks much clearer and natural. Moving between Standard and these Custom settings show that the Standard is much vibrant/over-saturated (I'll take pictures later tonight during a paused screen). It was very noticeable this morning while I was watching CNN. The logo between the two settings were very noticeable.

So far, this unit has been a great purchase to replace my plasma.

Whoa Amigo That may be true in photography not so simple with TV the implementation and the usual TV limitations are often different .

U sure I.. thought HDR was an optional component of rec 2020 and just (more likely pending ) or added in to the itu rec . 2020 ? U sure about the other stuff and not conflating that i.e. color gamut/color space with Chroma sub sampling that's what it sounds like to me ? how you think recc 2020 + HDR broadcast and IPTV standards happen U think they come out of thin air?

...... you know what the itu is right ?

You know how an LCD panel cell works ? Think thin film transistors to start and add in spatial and temporal dithering and throw in high frame rate control, maybe some pixel tuning while you are at it those are 5 starting points that don't include the lights or the LVDS algorithms and digital discrete time signals . .:p

ofc UHDTV HDR includes additional contrast and brightness (i.e. luminence and dynamic range of same )and color gamut/color space and YbCbr 4:4:4 chroma sampling, additional bit depth[/U] also all i.e. all components of HDR and with color space and YbCbr 4:4:4 chroma sampling and bit depth all specifically specified ) to itu rec.2020 and any pending addendums to same also that's the whole idea....and reqired for itu UHD HDR broadcast and digital transmission standards which usually carry over to consumer devices besides television receivers .

You do know HDR requires 11 Bit not 10 right ? (they just round it off) you know how they do that with a 10 bit +high frc panel it's called high speed temporal dithering

You know no consumer TV can do full in HDR probably not in 2016 also but some fake it or can do D3 or both ...... you know what D3 is ?

As HDR applies specifically to to itu standards compliant and *pending standards compliant2160p television You can have UHDTV without HDR but you cant have full HDR without rec 2020 compliance *as it applies to compliant standard and *pending standards compliant television and digital transmission standards * which includes rec2020 bit depth color space and chroma sub sampling etc. (see above )

Just goes to show that there is more to standards and *pending standards compliant UHD ..HDR than meets the eye and color space is integral to HDR *as it apples to UHDTV* and you don't have to know everything ....or the subject to post on a forum .:p
HDR and colour space are 2 different things. To get full rec 2020 on HDR a 10 bit panel can do this with Hi-frc which the samsung panels are.REC 2020 will either B 2016/2017 as long as you have a 10 bit panel your set will be able to do all future standards.Certain Company go further and offer a yearly add on accessory to help adhere to new standards.

For Native rec 2020 a minimal panel depth of 12 bits is needed(will have HI-frc) this will have no dithering and displays the colors natively.A 10 bit panel with HI-frc will display the colours by way of dithering but the method is so good the human eye cannot see the difference.

The agreed upon basic standard for HDR is SMPTE which is required on all 4k disks the other companies with HDR can have there Meta data added too when they decide.

SMTPE will most likely become the standard especially with all the major companies and movie studios backing it. Dolby digital HDR @ 10,000 Nits will blind people or burn out their led's I can't see this as a standard more as an option. Imagine 10,000 nits on a OLED it would melt the screen lol..

Samsung,Sony,Panasonic are just a few companies in the UHD alliance to many big companies and this has been set for 4k standards so as long as you can do hdr you will be fine as the all come with 10 bit panels as needed by HDR. HDR looks so dazling so vibrant this really is a big step and when people see this it will change everything . Games will be in HDR, TV shows,Movies it will be like the death of the tube tv. The birth of HDR is no joke . There will be some solutions for those who do not have HDR display#psuedo

So much tech is coming this fall on all fronts from gaming hardware to a brand new gaming API. 4k is going to blow up this year lots of people will make the jump . Those that want the best and are worried about HDR or are being scared of saying that this is not the standard or won't play future standard. I say you are buying HDR based of SMPTE standards not a non released dolby vision prototype that we know very little about. Based on this you are set and will be able to always display HDR and when rec 2020 comes out your 10 bit panel with HI-FRC will be able to display it and if the tv is a certain companies you can upgrade your ports/hardware/video processors/cpu ensuring more that you can play latest standards. Bottom line 4K HDR standard is SMPTE which all sets sold in 2015 with hdr can display . When rec 2020 is supported is few years off and adoption rate will be slow seeing how movies are filmed in DCI P3 not rec 2020 .

There is always something better around the corner every year we know the next model will have better features rinse repeat the next year same thing. This is a good time to jump the tech is stable and a standard has been put in place for UHD . Hey truth be told 2016 would be a better year wait probably 2018 think thats when the 6k hits the market no no no no 2020 cause 8 k double HDR come out then :p

Having read about backlight bleeding and clouding with LED units, I was very worried about the purchase, but I've yet to experience any of these *knock on wood*. My only gripe right now is that I have to change between picture modes in order to play my PS4  and no Netflix, but I can do without it for now :)

Is there an AUTO picture setting? On my old 2011 SONY TV, when I leave picture mode in Auto and turn on the PS4, the TV automatically detects the PS4 and switches to GAME mode, then I switch to my WDTV it switches back to MOVIE mode. (I have HDMI-CEC enabled.)

That would be really nice, as I often forget to switch in/out of game mode.

cool video I thought the blonde walking ahead of U was ur squeeze at first then I figured out you were were the video geek shooting ur walk and she was just up in front and didn't know or care :p

Hey .................not too many Hotties where they at around there ?

Video was cool I played it at 1080p to the 50" Sony in here vibrant colors typical of demo loops the TV U shot seemed to render them oK what do you think and what model was that ?

I have a lot of high bit rate 4K factory demo loops on my hdd from Sony ,LG,Samsung ,etc even on this 1080p 5,000 : 1 contrast panel they can make U drool they R nothing like TV or even most blue ray ............the PC vid card scales them down to real decently 1080P/60 HDMI YbCbr 4:4:4 ......and since 1080p <> 2160p either way is a 1:1 upscale /downscale and both the TV and PC are YbCbr4:4:4 there is no pixel manipulation going on those things are stunning major EYE Candy Beware U might not want to watch anything after these :p see link below .

I wish aside from the demo loops that can show a sets *potential* they would show something typical like OTA /CATV/SAT so one could see
the *usual * digital artifact ,mosquito noise, other artifacts /noise and bit starved posturization and the remediation efficacy on the sets .
That would be a legitimate reason *for me * if it were significantly better and*( not soft ) while having good color ,ect for me to buy an 55X850B at this time . otherwise with 4K/3D not being an imperative 4 *me more likely I will see what shakes out in 2016 that being said whatever set you choose I hope it's coOOL 4 U

B]here is the good stuff:[/B] some of it is beyond excellent

Downloadable high bit rate 4K demo loops Samsung,Sony ,LG,Panasonic and some other stuff and some newer stuff ,some of the LG is more than excellent ( way better than You tube VP9 )

Use your browser translator here > > http://demo-uhd3d.com/ U can downscale to 1080p in PC and still drool on a good set
If you have an IGPU and want to do that in software Daum Pot player 64 works good to play it so does VLC OTH WMP usually chokes on it even though it can read it sometimes .

OTOH modern APU /IGPU should work fine with one of these players just B careful were U get Daum Pot player x64 and only score VLC straight from Vidolan.org if U don't have them .

TBH this is some of the best anything I've ever seen outside of Magnolia B/B and it compares with what they got , it will let know just how good your TV is OTOH it will let you know just how s***y our CATV/SAT and *some OTA service is by comparison if U have a decent TV ofc U probably wouldn't be reading this if you didn't.☺☺

This place has 2K and 4K playable and downloadable stuff you have to drill down lot of stuff there I haven't checked it out a lot yet but I did score and play a few OK demo loops there .http://www.demo-world.eu/2d-demo-trailers-hd/

PS I think *some of the newbies* recently posting here and *one other or two others * don't like technical posts .............. because they don't know much and are only trolling and posing :p
OMFG you type a lot bro... lol......but thanks for the compliment on my video. The video title clearly says 75X50C, lol... I though tit looked very nice and the picture quality was nice and bright and the colors were amazing. I do not like to bright of a screen as it bothers my eyes and I love the real natural colors as you can see in the video. My impression of the 75X850C was that it is very beautiful with accurate colors from what I can see. Motionflow was very nice but I was watching loops so I cant really say. I would need to see a football game on the screen. They play these slow moving loops that you cant tell anything. They need to change their loops, as the guy said in the video that this is the same loop for 2 years. I would need to bring the TV home and see for myself. I feel every panel maybe slight different and tested individually. IMO. Also, there are many hotties in NYC but you are not going to see a lot in the 100 feet I recorded.

P.S. Stop typing essays...

I wonder if Sony is the only brand that no longer includes 3D glasses with their new 3D TV's. Seems kind of stupid from a marketing standpoint. I know of one person that this pisses off. ME!
