Greetings,

I'm in the market for a new 30" tube widescreen HDTV and have

narrowed my choices to the two Sony models listed in the subject

line. I will be using this set for mainly HD cable, Xbox games and

also SD cable and some DVD movies. Picture quality and cost are

my two biggest concerns.

I've viewed both these sets, actually the 34" version of the XS955,

and can't make up my mind which I like better. No B&M store in my

area that I'm aware of has both. Some stores have their sets using

cheap cables, so it's been difficult getting an accurate read.

My question is which of the sets do you think has a better PQ?

If it's the XS955, do you think it's worth the extra $400? The

built in HD tuner and cablecard are not significant issues for me

as I'm currently using a HD STB provided by my cable company

(TWC).

Thanks,

Jim

Most people will say that any Sony Vega with the super fine pitch tube will look better than the standard Vega. I agree, the XBR and XS models I've seen have a significantly better PQ than the HS models (which are no slouches either). The value of that is up to you.

One question that may help is how close you will be sitting to the set. The further away you sit the less you will notice the increased resolution of the SFP tubes.
