Sony 40W4100 pic. is "jerky" when playing hi-def movie from PC??

1003 Views 11 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  George7806
I've recently bought this set, and noticed, that by hooking up to my laptop (Dell XPS1530) and playing Hi-Def (720p,1080p) movies, the picture gets jerky.

It plays fine in small window, but becomes "jerky" when extending into full screen. This only happens on the tv screen...plays fine on laptop, no matter if it's set to full screen or not. My previous Tv had no problem with playing continuously in full screen (Sharp Aquos LC42D85U). I would appreciate any advice.

I had the same TV home for 24 hrs

It had exactly the same problem you describing

I swapped it for Samsung 750 series - no more problems
Well I went and found the specs for that Dell 1530 and it only has an Nvidia GeForce™ Go 8600M GT with 256MB dedicated graphic memory, which is a pretty low end video processor and doesn't have the strength to run video at 1920x1080 and I would imagine that it would also have a bit of a problem even running it at 720p which is 1366x768.

If your looking to play HD content from a computer your going to need to go with a better graphics proccessor such as the ATi HD series or the Nvidia 9 series cards.

One thing you can do is make sure you have the latest video drivers and you may also want to output the video using a good dvd software like PowerDVD 8 or WinDVD 9, oh and at max run it at 720p because 1080p is just to much for that system.
Well for me the Samsung did not exhibit the same problem.

ATI HD4550 512MB Video card

I had the problem with Sony even with 1280x720 resolution
Depending on what input you're using on the TV (anything but VGA I think) you can try turning Cinemotion off. In my experience, some sources seem to confuse the Cinemotion processing and can cause motion issues.
Even though the Dell XPS 1530 has a slow graphic processor, I haven't had any problems when it was hooked up to the Sharp Aquos TV (LC42D85U). The weird thing is, that when I play it on the laptop nearly full size it looks continous, but when I pull it over to the "TV side" it plays jerky. This are Hi-def .avi files, not DVD's. I'm using SMplayer, which supposed to be a really good software for this purpose.Seems like "lifeisfun" had the same issue with a graphic processor, that should've been able to handle the task. I've only had the Sharp LCD for 5 days, and returned it for DELL trying to cheat me out of the free BD player they offered on their site....all and all I wasn't to happy with Sharp's picture either. I know it could have been tweeked to look better, but SONY looked so much better straight out of the box. I'm going to upgrade the software on the tv, and see if I still have the problem. Thanks for the quick replys, and let me know if anyone had the same issue as well.

I agree... it's teh video processor on the laptop that's the problem.
If that's the case, then can you explain, why would the same laptop, playing the exact same file perfectly on the Sharp TV?? (Exact same setup, different tv...)
My HTPC is 3.4GHZ P4 so I doubt that the PC or video card is the problem

I used HDMI connection
Did you try upgrading the Tv's software? If I can't resolve this issue, the TV has to go back...I've used RGB connection, I'll try to use the laptop's HDMI connection, but I doubt that it would be the problem. Thanks
Even after the upgrade is still jerky. I'll try to hook up my desktop later.
