Has any non usa users imported one into their country and worked ok?
You could always legally purchase or lease a VPN server in the U.S. and have all your router traffic routed through a U.S. IP address.

May not be cost effective for you but it shouldn't be too expensive if you just can't wait.

Just saying!

surprised there is not much action in this thread yet..

I just bought the 65 inch/bdps790/fmp-x1 combo, and I am completely blown away by this combo!!

My tv had the proper board, so no problems there, the media player was recognized instantly, and all downloaded updates worked perfectly, and, outside of the high prices for movies, this thing is fantastic!!

Wondering if anyone knows if the external hd USB's are "active" yet, and if there are any recommended hard drives and sizes to use with it?

this is the future of 4k entertainment, and I have excited to be part of it!!

Hi. I have downloaded about seven movies. That in addition to the ten that cam pre-loaded has me at almost an entire TB already used.

I tried to connect an external hard drive to the media player, but Sony says it has not activated the USB for it yet. does anybody have any

additional information. i mean, if sony wants us to buy movies and has already said you can connect an external hard drive, i am wondering

why they will not provide the means to do it yet.

i mentioned in the other thread for the x900a, that I downloaded Lawrence of Arabia. Check it out. At least look at the preview. It is quite

something to behold. This and Life Cycles are the two best 4K movies I have seen so far. Lawrence is breathtaking in every way.

I downloaded Lawrence of Arabia.

How is the letterbox on LofA? The prints were released as 2.20:1 for 70mm and 2.35:1 for 35mm.

Is it similar to Bridge on the River Kwai? If you notice, on Kwai, there is moderate cropping on the 4K version. Especially noticeable as they transition in the final long shot to the closing credit.

Lee, I cannot answer tech questions from a tech standpoint. But I just looked at both. The letterbox in Bridge is more black bar on top and bottom of screen.

Lawrence is almost, full screen. Not quite. Still has black bars. But much less than Kwai. Hope that helped a little. The easiest way to see it is to watch Preview of both movies.

The Preview shows it exactly as it looks. Same with Kwai. That way you will be able to compare them perfectly. Rich

Thanks E, I'll check out the preview. I've watched Kwai, and it looked rich, like old time films. The only minor issue was the audio level was considerably lower from the X1 for that film than others.

To X1 owners sending audio directly to their AVR's from HDMI2: is this connection working properly? When I play content from the X1, I always get a brief 1-2 second audio dropout at the beginning, almost like the X1 and AVR are negotiating the connection, and then the audio plays correctly. Otherwise, the audio connection seems to be fine. Both 2.0 and 5.1 play correctly through the AVR.

it works fine for me, although there is a second or delay for the video to connect, as well as the audio.

I figured it was either caching, or something like that; its definately not too bothersome IMO..

As I understand, you can delete material from the player, but you still own the 4k movie and you can download again for no extra charge. Seems pretty modern and okay to me. The player works beautifully. I love the whole thing, except... the security is so intense that it inhibits sales dear Sony.

The unit has lots of bugs. It may work great for some and then it may not. Mine was giving me issues (not working at all) until the Sony upper level explained the bugs and we got it working. The Directv Genie receiver has issues with it. It has to be fully turned off for the 4K server to even work. Mine was plugged in thru a receiver on port 2 (4k server is on port 4). Once I turned it off, the server started to work perfectly. Next issue, is that for some reason that the second HDMI port that is audio only, when it is connected to my receiver (Denon) , it causes the 4k server to shut down after a few minutes of use. So literally, I have to run the 4k server by itself then and only then does it work.

I am excited to use it but I say this to the people that dont have it, you should wait until all the bugs are taken out.

Strange. I have my Media Player connected to a Denon AVR using HDMI2 from the player, and I also have two DirecTV DVR's (not Genie's), and I am not experiencing any of the issues you describe. Are you sure you don't have a defective unit?

If someone could help me with an issue I'm having with the Sony FMP-X1 media player I would be very appreciative.

My Sony XBR-65x850a TV is working phenomenally. I attempted to hook up my media player, and have been experiencing days of headache ever since.

My wireless router in the house has to be downstairs. This TV and media player are sitting upstairs. To solve this, initially I purchased a Netgear Range Extender. I hooked the TV and media player directly up to this device. I was able to get a network signal to the media player. Unfortunately, I received the "Cannot connect to media player" message after the initial 4K intro screen. What was interesting was, one of the first nights I had this, the TV and media server actually DID pair, and I was able to view several 4K clips and a movie. This pairing occurtred several minutes after allowing the media player to just sit there powered on and hooked up to the TV HDMI4. Unfortunately since that first night, I have not been able to achieve getting the media player successfully paired again.

I'm the other owner talking to Sony about this, and I've been torching them on Amazon reviews for this nonsense.

In a nutshell I was getting constant "network down" despite having an awesome network. Hours on the phone with Sony alwyaws wanting me to test my network which is always awesome but never testing their trash.

After many broken promises about getting back to me, nothing has happened.

I started thinking about it. The error message "Network appears to be down" is actually a TV message (unplug a wired connection while watching netflix or such). SO I started screwing around with the ---TV--- network setup

Here is what I did at it works perfectly now: switch the ---TV---- from wired to wireless using ---WPS---, not WAS security. That's the pushbutton security. Look it up.

Worked perfectly ever since.

Reported this to Sony haven't heard a word. Did get the TV software update today (8 OCT). still seems to work...

Jjnbos,

It appears as your player and TV are not recognized as belonging to the same network if wired/Wi-Fi mixed, and switching the wireless setting on the TV worked because the player and the TV may then be recognized as paired within the same WI-Fi router network rather than the RJ45 Ethernet wiring.

One solution I found with a similar problem with a 4K server I was testing was to move the WiFi router close to the player and projector and rather connect them directly to the router with Ethernet cables.

Regarding using your A/V receiver for 4K video between the player and the UHDTV make sure the receiver is 4K pass-thru capable, using the receiver for audio only should not cause any video interference if the player is directly connected to the UHDTV for the video.

I guess I was not clear.

It did NOT work when they both were connected wired to the same router.

Now the FMP is connected wired, which is the only choice there, but the TV is now wireless, but not WPA wireless. Switched to WPS wireless.

Sony suggests/demands that the TV be connected wired and the FMP is always wired, but that did NOT work for me...

Maybe that's clearer...

FWIW, my Media Player is hard-wired, and my X900 is wireless, using WPA2-PSK(AES). I have no issues getting the two to work together. I have a cable internet connection with 15MBs download speed.

So lets clarify that message that comes up saying there is network issue. It is not always about the network. It could be host of other problems. To clarify previous messages with Directv, the issue is ONLY with the Directv GENIE DVR. I get the network issue when it is on and connected to HDMI 2. When unplugged, not even rebooting the FMP-X1, the server resets on its own and works. The other issue that I have is that the HDMI2 out on the server, if there is a cable plugged into and going to a receiver, it will cause the unit to crash. The Sony upper level rep said that it was an issue that they were working on.

I should note that is a replacement unit from Sony. The first one kept shutting down 20 minutes into the movie. I am hoping some type of software update will resolve these nuances.

On the bright side, anyone check out that Bicycle movie... The 4k is just amazing on it.
