Sony 50WE610 (GWIII) vs. Hitachi 50c500???

I've pretty much narrowed down my choice to one of these LCD's. I was able to see the new GWIII yesterday and was impressed with the PQ and at another store was also impressed with the hitachi but have not been able to directly compare them. Has anyone done such a comparison? Price diff goes to Hitachi by a couple of hundred - but I am more interested in PQ.

Regardless of choice, has anyone found a bracket for attaching a center speaker on top of either of these sets. The TV will not be against a wall, so i need some sort of bracket for the 8" wide speaker. Thanks

I just received my 50V500 yesterday. I am totally satisfied with it out the box with just alittle tweaking. I also had a center channel mounting problem til I decided to mount a shelf just above the set. If you can not or do not want to mount a shelf, I ran across a set top shelf from Sanus for $30 you can get a Crutchfield or your local electronics shop. I was not sure it would work on such a narrow top set like mine so I opted for the shelf. I hope this helps. I have a thread showing how I mounted my center channel.
Thanks for the tip on the Sanus, Tremelle - I will have to see whether this can fit on either of these sets. It's only rated at 15lbs though and my speaker is more like 25-30lbs.
JoeMa -- I narrowed my choices between both of these set also. I have yet to see any of them. Which set had the best colors in your opinion. Which set had a less grainy image, softer image?
abarsami,

I just had a chance to see the Panny, Hitachi and GWII (no GWIII yet at this store) and while any conclusions are suspect when comparing the store's set up, I preferred the GWII by a slight margin over the Hitachi. The Panny looked a little washed out - lower contrast. The Hitachi may have had slighly better color saturation and accuracy, but the GWII looked more natural and slighly crisper without artifacts. I think I am going with the GWIII, based on what I've seen so far.

Anyone else do the comparison??
Hey Joe,

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, except I'm still also considering the Panasonic. I'm assuming you viewed the 3 sets at the CC in Natick??? It's very hard to compare in that crappy little room they have the sets in, but one thing I've noticed is that the off-angle brightness of the Hitachi seems to be lacking compared to the other 2 (the vertical viewing angle, in particular, seems more limited to me). As far as PQ, it really seems to depend on what's playing on CC's loop -- sometimes I enjoyed the vibrance of the Panny, other times I felt that the Hitachi displayed less pixellation artifacts, and other times I felt that the GWII offered the best overall PQ. I haven't seen the GWIII yet -- did they have it at the Natick Tweeter?

Honestly, I'm also torn between the 3 sets and I'll probably just use cost as a deciding factor (unless the GWIII really wows me).

Direwolf,

Yes the Framingham - Rt. 9 Tweeter has both the 42" and 50" GWIII up and running, right next to the Samsung DLP. After viewing all the options - Panny, Hitachi, Samsung, GWIII, I am now sold on the GWIII. Just two hesitations:

1. Cost--- Tweeter wants to charge full $3,300. while online I'm seeing this set for a lot less

2. How to put a center speaker on the set - the TV will not be against a wall and I can't place it underneath with the stand I now have. I don't think the Sanus bracket is going to work either. Any ideas? Any new stand needs wheels.

A friend of mine has the GWII and he actually has his center channel hanging from the ceiling using very strong fishing line. You can't see the line hardly at all. Basically they got some strong hooks (4) and put them into the ceiling. They used a stud finder to make sure they put it into a rafter in the ceiling. Then they tied the fishing line to the hooks and suspended the center channel evenly distributing the weight between the two pieces of fishing line. Once you put the screen back on the center speaker you can't really see the fishing line at all. The speaker physically doesn't sit on the TV, but it hangs flush with it so that it looks that way. I think it works great. Incidentally he has the top of the line polk center channel and it is pretty heavy so you should be fine if you decide to go that route.
