I recently got a Sony 51WS520 CRT RPTV and have been very pleased with the overall performance, especially after a user calibration. I use a Sony RM3000 universal learning remote with my home theater, which is one of those huge touchscreen type of remotes. In the default setting for Sony TV's on the remote, it shows four labeled buttons along the button, one each for Video 1-4. It does exactly what you would think in that pressing Video4 changes the TV to the Video4 input, but the weird part is that the manual makes no mention of having direct input selection, only input cycling with the TV/Video button.

So my question is, does anyone know how to do direct input selection with the TV remote control? I ask because I want to add inputs Video 5-7 to the RM3000 but can only do so via the learning function. My D*Tivo is on Video1 and the DVD and XBox are on Video5 & Video6, so I have no need to directly select Video2-4.

Thanks!

i have the same remote... i believe (but could be wrong) that it is a function of preprogrammed macros in the remote. so, you can't do direct access from the tv's original remote and then learn them to the 3000. what might help you out is in the setup menu of the tv, you can skip any unused inputs when you are cycling using the tv/video button.

Update: Did the online chat thing with Sony Support. The rep at first said direct input selection is not possible, and then I explained AGAIN that the Sony universal remote is doing it by default, that I just need to know how to do it with the original TV remote. She then said that I should refer to page 88 of the remote user manual to learn how to do this. Of course all that does is reference what I"ve already told her, that the RM-AV3000 has video 1-4 buttons on the LCD screen by default. I went back and chatted with a second rep who told me repeatedly that the remote does not have the capability to directly choose a video input. I told him for the 47th time that the SONY universal remote I have is DIRECTLY changing the inputs on the TV, so the capability is there whether it is documented or not. I just want to know how to do it with the original SONY TV remote so I can program the RM-AV3000 to directly access Video 5-7 as well.

Anyway, I'm still on hold while they look up stuff...

That's what I was thinking too, but if it's a preprogrammed macro, then the TV still is receiving a command that says to switch directly to a specific input instead of cycling. The question I posed to Sony, is what is that command or macro or whatever? It may not be possible with the TV remote, but it's possible with the TV itself.

I have the same t.v. and eventhough I'm not using a universal remote, but by going into the channel/input settings you can label each input and then have the t.v. skip the other inputs. So if you have the D-TIVO in Video 1, X-BOX in Video 5 and DVD in Video 6 then you can label all the remaining channels as "SKIP". Then using your Sony Universal you should select through the video inputs in order TIVO, XBOX and DVD player with out a problem since there are only three channels to select from and the Sony remote should not know the difference.
