Sony 52XBR4 pixel dead?

1459 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  taker
HI guys, I'm sorry, I havent found an answer for my specific question.....

I have a xbr4 52.......i love it......I was up close to it yesterday just trying stuff out, and I noticed a dead/stuck pixel , smack dab in the middle of the screen....it is green when the rest of the background is all black......u can notice it when watching things up close.....from far away, u can hardly tell.........Is this something I should be concerned about? I am still under warranty, i just got it a month ago......should i contact Frys ( place i ordered it from for a replacement?) or sony? is this normal? I'll try to get a picture posted when i get home tonight.

I have heard that the manufacturers don't cover stuck pixels unless there is a certain number of stuck pixels, I might be mistaken, but it might be better to go back and speak to the store before the 30 days is up
Stuck pixels are normal and the nature of the beast for the LCD display mfgs. For the LCD set mfg, there are lots of accomodations for upset customers. You should be able to get a new set but any set can have these.

Ok, I called Fry's and they said to call Sony.....

Sony rep gave me the normal stuff, saying that dead/stuck pixels are a normal occurance in LCD etc......I disagreed and reminded them of the tons of $ i just spent on it....and he then looked up some TV repair shops in my area and said to schedule an appt with them, provide a proof of purchase to them and its covered under warranty.......

I will see what happens...
I had two bad pixels on my Mitsu 46131 when I bought it from CC a year ago...it was still in the 30-day return period, so I called them up and they brought out a replacement set the next day at no charge and took the old one away. The replacement set is perfect...zero bad pixels.

this is one reason i try not to order online - not that it cant happen from a local CC or BB - its not the stores fault and it is rare to find a panel thats a perfect zero stuck or dead pixel - i got a set at CC - XBR4 32 inch - and its very nice - but i did find one stuck pixel after about 2 weeks - dont know if i missed it at first or it happened on its own -

but its so so small and on the lower bottom of the screen -

cant even see it up close - so i kept it - but if affected the picture and was noticable when just watching from normal distance - then i would have called CC to return it - thats the only drawback of buying Online - sometimes you save a nice amount of money - which is great - but if its just a few hundred - difference between local stores and online - thats not worth it to me - but if its $400 , $600 etc. more - thats a chance to take - i hope you got a really price from Frys - as for me - i tried a few stuck pixel programs etc.. - didnt work for me - and i dont know about pushing on the screen too much - either with your finger or a pencil eraser etc. - that can actually create more problems than you have to begin with -

if you can bring it to a service center or have them take a look - maybe they can do something - hope it all works out - these things cost alot of money now - $2000 - $3500 for a good TV now - its almost getting too crazy -

now i seen the new 2008 Sony's too - who knows the price of those things - post back with how they handle this for you and if it gets fixed etc.

I have not tried this yet....but i found this somewhere on the web:

Stuck pixels are not guaranteed to be correctable, and can remain faulty for the life of the monitor. A stuck pixel might be fixed with JScreenFix, a Java-based application that flashes numerous colors with a very rapid intensity.

and this thread has some info: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=955563

I just inquired via sony style about their extended warranty...and what it would cover as far as pixels....they said that there must be 10 dead pixels per square inch or else they wouldnt fix anything......it sounds like that this extended warranty is a joke as far as pixels go......
I don't believe that you can fix a dead pixel. I have had them before on my lcd in my car and you can't fix them only replace the monitor.. this is on of the downfalls of LCD.. by the way you cant fix plasma monitors when they go out either.
