After a couple days of fiddling with the DVE (regular dvd), I think I finally found the optimal settings for using the 46"er as the external monitor for my macbook. Connected using mini-dvi to HDMI. Gaming mode on the tv is the only setting that accepts the correct resolution.

picture mode-Game (original)

Backlight-3

picture-90

brightness-60

color-47

hue-g3

color temp-warm 2

sharpness-2

all other picture "enhancements" off

I'm very pleased with this Sony and recommend it without reservation!

Could you think of any other settings for the calibration. I have the same television. Your settings were good but I feel the brightness was a bit much.

I'm so frustrated with this tv I feel like I'm missing something.. I want it to look more dynamic. I know its only a 60hz but I've seen 60hz tvs that look real close to what a 120hz looks like... any tips?
