Bought my Sony Bravia XBR2 46" in the fall of 2006, have noticed the problem for a couple of months now.

Basically, on the right side of the screen (upper 2/3 along the edge) there is a flashing blue light whenever that portion of the screen comes across certain bright colors (a patch of sky always triggers this effect for example). I've also seen the same pattern in an orange hue, much less frequent than the blue one though.


Can anyone tell me what this is called, if anyone else has/is experiencing this problem and what can be done about it?

If it's under warranty, make a service call.

The LCD panel is obviously going bad. Your TV is still under 1 year manuf. warranty from Sony so don't delay, call them right away and get it fixed.

Yeah, I've got a service call scheduled for next week. I'm lucky enough to live in a big city near one of their service centers... but can you imagine if one would have to ship this thing to Sony for repair? According to their 12-month warranty policy, shipping your defective product is on you! Or if one would notice a problem like this in the 13th month following their purchase...


It seems every single piece of electronic equipment you buy nowadays, no matter how expensive it is, is prone to defects / breaking down. It sounds like a cliche, but sadly it is all too real, they just don't make stuff like they used to :/
