Sony CX777ES / Denon 3806 spdif setup

204 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  bpric
I can get audio but not video when I make the connection via spdif optical. I do get a video signal if I connect the DVD player's RCA connection to the appropriate input on the receiver. I was able to connect a different DVD player to the receiver without any troubles. I've switched cables, inputs, etc. enough to be fairly certain that the source of the trouble is on the DVD player side of things. This problem applies to the DVD player's On-Screen Setup display as well as actual DVD movie itself. I expect that it's a simple setting that I need to change, but I just can't figire it out.

The receiver and the DVD player are both new.

Thanks,

Bryan

S/PDIF optical (or coax) is only audio, no video.

There is a video connection via RCA, called composite, which has no audio.

Together, they might do the job.

Tell us what the devices are and what the connectors say on them.

Thanks! Now it all makes sense. The DVD player that I thought I had successfully connected was a DVD/VCR combo unit, and that unit was apparently providing the video signal via the RCA analog connection that the VCR half required.

Cheers,

Bryan
