I have not been able to disable my Dad's Sony RDR-VX560 from defaulting to English subtitles with every factory DVD inserted. Menu seems to give you a choice for auto or specific language, but not an "off" default. Am I missing something simple?? I hope! Help appreciated.

I have experienced the same problem with older DVD's that not only begin playing with English subtitles on, but also default to 2 channel stereo. I have to manually select Dolby Digital 5.1 and subtitles off.

Look for a CC setting on... subtitles are sometimes used for CC. Could also be in your TV.

I revisited this today and it is definitely the DVD player. The options menu on the player always shows English as default subtitle and selected.


So subtitles must always be manually turned off even though the DVD movie menu remains set to off and the flat panel menu is set to off.


Would a firmware update possibly cure the problem if Sony made the change?
