Hi,

I have a Sony DH800 7.1 Receiver. The Speaker pattern that I have for it is 7.1 (1 central, 2 fronts, 2 surround, 2 surround back, 1 SW). My Blu-ray player is a PS3. The PS3 is sending the audio as LPCM.

My question is, if I am playing a BD movie that doesn't has 7.1 audio (just 5.1), why my surround back speakers are working as if the movie has 7.1 audio even when the receiver display showed that the receiving audio is 5.1? Is the sound coming out from those speakers a copy of the surround speakers? Does a DSP is simulating full surround sound? Do I need to change the Speaker Pattern to 5.1 when the movie only supports this pattern?

I thought that the E.SURROUND (Enhanced) mode doest that. The manual says that AFD mode "Presents the sound as it was recoded/encoded without adding any surround effects."

I will check later again.

thanks
