I have the Sony 5 disc DVD player (DVPNC675P). I've read the manual but didn't see anything in there about switching from PCM to Bitrate. I was told that I need to switch to Bitrate in order to get Dolby 5.1 sound. Anyone familiar with this model and can help me out? Thanks

what is the big difference b/w the PCM and Bitrate options, with regards to sounds sent by the player to the receiver?

PCM can only handle 2-channel stereo. So all your DD5.1 will be down-sampled to 2-channel stereo and send to your receiver if you select PCM mode. If your receiver supports DD and DTS, you should select the other mode ('bitrate' or 'bitstream' or whatever your DVD player calls it).
